I don't see a problem with this. The world just needs to open up to fungi aficionados, and stop worrying about particular 'landscaping'. Nature can take care of itself. As long as we aren't polluting in these areas they will experience a resurgence in growth. One thing I've learned about plants and natures... the harder you whack, the thicker and faster they come back! Native plants can take care of themselves, and if they're that worried about it getting out of hand, they should establish other areas for people to come and hunt. Human traffic (excluding pollution and such) can only help spread out the fungus, right?

Using rakes and shovels is a problem, since it will disrupt the growth of mycelium and pins as well as finding mushrooms big enough to harvest. I believe these practices are already banned though.

It really is... at least here in Seattle. So many friends of mine and co-workers are getting into it. I'm not sure the reason but it seems logical when the cost of living is sky-rocketing and people are becoming more conscious of the food they put in their body. People are slowly learning the benefits of mushrooms and foraging in general.

I went to a local Park today. Found about 4 lbs of oysters. No rake needed
Foraging hasn't really taken off in my region - South East Bible belt.
If the people down here see mushroom foragers, they pray for us and try to throw Holy water on us. Exercise the demons that have clearly possessed our minds

I found 5 different edible varieties today.
Oysters, sweet tooth, Pluteus cervinus, pear shaped puff balls, abd lastly(I'm pretty happy about this one) Flammulina velutipes.
The pics of the enoki are terrible. I was hanging upside down over a River to take the pics and collect the mushrooms.
