Flushing with Manure tea
    #1922983 - 09/16/03 09:50 PM (13 years, 2 months ago)

Hey whats up growers, im new to this fourum, i have 1 year experience with MJ growing and am now growing organic. One of the ways of fertilizing organic is teas. You take water and put it in a bucket with some manure or compost or whatever for about a week then use that to fert. The nutes go into the water and theoreticly you get liquid whatever you put in the bucket.

Im going to be starting a small personal 18"x18" PF grow and was thinking if i can flush with a manure tea that is pasturized? My theory is it wil increase the nutes for sure and extend the life of the cakes so i can do a few more flushes before the cakes are exhausted, mabey even do a continous grow?? Would there be any problems with flushing with a tea? Has anyone experimented with anything like this? I talked to a grower that gave me a few tips on growing shrooms and he said it might work and i should give it a try but only use a bit to stop contams but i think contams wont be a problem if its pasturized, what do you guys think?

Thanks!

try making your cakes with manure tea instead of straight water. i wouldn't dunk them in manure tea though. too much of a contam risk.

How could it be contamed if its Pasturized? Wouldnt it be totaly free of contams? If theres no risk in making the cakes with manure tea why not dunk them too? Wouldnt they both be equal oppurtunity to contam the substrate? i guesss its like rolling dice and evey time i get more of chance of contam

hehe... growing mushrooms is a little different than growing pot. we're talking about a whole new world of cleanliness here. airborne contams, assuming you properly sterilize\pasteurize everything, are one of your biggest enemies.

anything with enough nutrition will contam if exposed to air if not already occupied by a strong mycelial network, and even then, the nasties can still strike.

on second thought though, manure tea actually is probably pretty safe. i don't think it contains enough nutes for contamination to become a big problem.

when i use manure in my bulk grows, there's a good inch of casing material between the pins and the shit... with this manure dunk you're talking about, i'd be afraid of getting shit-soaked mushrooms.

the few times i tried dunking in shit tea,
everything contaminated very quickly.
better to use it before,
as you prep the substrate
before sterilization.

I used to pasturize straw with a "tea" of cow shit. I would disovle the shit in boiling water and then pour over my straw pasturize for 1 hour (160 degs).....works great!
