Preffered Acid for Adjusting Substrate Ph?
    #19228650 - 12/04/13 08:20 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

I've got some Ghost Fungus that I'm ready to spawn to sterilized wood pellets + wood chips. I'd like to make several bags with varying Ph levels. Acidic Ph levels, down to 2.5-3.0 if possible.

I've got some HCl and some Acetic Acid, also some Citric Acid. I'm curious if anyone has a preferred acid and method for adjusting substrate Ph?

Any help is appreciated!

Kinda curious about this too.  Citric sounds safest, but

Wondering what others have used.

there's some threads back there, look it up.  the one i remember, it gave the myc a head start but didn't make a difference in the long run.

it is a long spawn run/colonization time.  took my grain at least a month, and maybe 2 for the bags.

I'm not growing ghost fungus, just curious in general, what did you use for acidification?

If you want a longer-term buffer, use sulfur powder.  Citric acid works well too.

I used 1 cc of Phosphoric Acid for my Shiitake grow that I bought from a hydroponic store.
Not much pH down I know ,but phosphates are actually a good fertilizer for most plants as
well so I figured what the heck. I would stay away from hydrochloric acid though. I didn't test
the pH of my sawdust this time around. But next time I will be much more scientific about it.

Lemon juice is full of citric acid. I'm not sure about the other stuff present though.
If you try lemon juice, Do buy a few lemons and squeeze them yourself. Don't buy
sugar laced grocery store juices.

Just FYI I decided to run with Citric acid. I would like to try the straight sulfur powder at some point, but I had the citric acid on hand.
