BRF first go around, are these fruit chamber worthy ?
    #19228519 - 12/04/13 08:01 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Let me know your thoughts.  I have been awaiting this stage of the game for about 60 days now as I had a couple bunk attempts prior to getting this far.  I have posted pics of these jars in earlier stages in a previous thread without any suggestions of contamination so I'm hoping I'm ready to move forward with at least two of them.  There are three jars total; pics 1-5 are two jars which show only white however it is not as thick looking as I typically see in other threads, and it appears as though some of the dry verm has fallen down along the edges as the cake has pulled away from the jar.  Pics 6-8 are shot of the same jar, this one has recently developed this greenish puddle at the bottom of jar and along one of the sides.  With hefty sniffs to each inoc point on each jar I can detect no foul odors.  Let me know what you think.  I'm thinking of going for SGFC, any tips in that department would be welcome too. Thanks again

I would say that if all the brownish-gray spots have filled in and it's been solid white for at least a week, then they should be good to go. I'll let someone weigh in on the yellowish ring on the bottom of that one jar.

don't turn the jars upside down  :facepalm3:  disturbing the verm layer is the easiest way to invite comtams  to party on your cakes

I don't see anything wrong with your cakes they are fully colonized , after a week of consolidation , birth them

when was the last time you did cakes? ahh I know since the last ice age :tongue2: , cakes are more vulnerable in the first week of colonization and if they get contams eventually will overrun the mycelium, once the cake is fully colonized and you don't see the off colors spreading is alright.. or should be

OP if you are uneasy about that cake with the yellowish thing, fruit separately in 2 a litter soda bottle(shotgun chamber style) after the first flush you can break the quarantine and put it back with the others, or if it goes south with contams you can toss it

Metabolites are never a good sign.....neither is yellow bacteria......at any stage in growth.

I don't think that cake based on the way it looks and the stage of colonization is at, should be tossed away, is not like is trich and it will jizz a gazillion spores impacting  your future grows

Listen, I never said he should toss it, I was referring to your comment which stated

I do....I see either metabolites and/or bacteria, and it's kind of obvious.

He could chance it and fruit it(it may still produce), or he could toss it.....his choice.

But there is definetly something wrong with that cake.....

Thanks for the input guys. I think ill try put the culprit in quarantine as suggested. We keep our therm at 65 but ive ran into some strong suggestions against using an aquarium heater in the fruiting chamber, does anybody have experience or input on this ? I was Gunna try a tub in tub style shotgun with hydroton + water + heater in large tub and then put the cakes in a smaller tub with perlite inside the larger tub with only one lid over the larger tub.

Never heat the chamber, heat the room.

65F will work just fine....
