Re-use sawdust?
    #19225386 - 12/04/13 05:47 AM (10 years, 1 month ago)

I was wondering if the contaminated sawdust, after opening can be laid flat on the ground and let the sun do the rest.

Can it be re-used again after a month or so?

I'll answer your question with a question:

Would you eat a T-bone steak that you found on the ground, rotting away with a rat eating it and flies spawning maggots through the interior as long as you placed it in the sun for a month and then cooked it first?

LoL RR you have a way with words

I would not use contaminated substrate, but spent sawdust can be reused up to 20%.  Saw some papers about remixing spent sub that showed some yield benefits.

Pellets are cheap enough for me that I personally don't bother.  Will be working on a spent sawdust composting project this spring with the mountain of blocks I will produce this winter.  Would like to raise worms on a medium scale and produce a Hpoo based mushroom oompost for summer projects and distribution.

I composted all my old subs this year in a low spot that will become a shade garden with hostas and ferns.  Really produces a nice loam after a few turnings.
