Insomnia and anxiety?
    #19224606 - 12/03/13 10:07 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

So, I've drank most nights recently to fall asleep and usually smoked weed when I didn't. When I did neither, I always took hero doses of valerian and kava kava, plus various OTC sleep aids (this is all in concert).

Not being able to sleep from K2 withdraw in 2011 led to the most traumatic experience of my life that I'm still fixing shit from, and I'm finding that trying to sleep naturally is making me anxious and this rouses me.

Is this dumb and is it a normal hurdle when transitioning back to unaided sleep?

Would it help if I exercised now or would this wake me up more? I'm finding conflicting stuff about this.

I also thought maybe I could watch Walk Hard... I've had a lot to be sad about the last couple days and this'd probs cheer me up and help me relax.

Or I could suck it up and stack baby sleep aids again, just not Alcohol... What's the best?

This might not work if the sleeplessness is due to withdrawl, but I remember reading about how its not when you go to sleep but when you wake up that matters. It talked about how if you wanted to be able to go to sleep earlier, you have to wake up earlier and make it through the day. That can be easier said than done though.

Exercising definitely wakes me up. When I was having sleep problems a morning run really helped me get myself back on track. Long distance running in general is fantastic for the mind. If you run for long enough you'll eventually stop thinking, that's the best feeling

Lol only K2 has ever gotten me to stop thinking.

Thanks for the advice. I just got back into running and am working my distance back up. Then makes sense about getting up, but now you've got me doubly troubled because oh wait it doesn't matter if I sleep in today... Weed tomorrow night :justcantwait:

It will take some time for your body to adjust and return to normal without any pharmacological input. Just give it time. Try and exercise if you can and make sure you are eating healthy, lots of water is always good as well. You may also be experiencing symptoms of insomnia and anxiety because of your ingestion of amphetamines, even at a prescribed dosage.

Hmmm yeah, forgot about the Addy. I passed on caffeine today entirely even though I really could have used some for potentiating my speed.

I'm gonna work on doubling the distance I run... maybe wearing myself out during the day will help too. Water I tend to forget about cause of the speed as well. I just really wonder if I couldn't end up and feel better off without this crap period, plus I think I mainly have used it to compensate for sloppy drugging and drinking although it helps and I'm sure if ADHD is real that I have it or did as a kid.

Thanks for all the advice everyone

Water is essential, especially when you are on amphetamines because of the dehydration that occurs. Maybe consider taking a break from all of the psychoactive substances you regularly ingest and just see where that gets you. A fresh perspective is sometimes necessary and even helpful.

I forgot about the direct effects from the amphs... I was just thinking about how I forget to eat and drink when I take it (Limitless, anyone?).

I'm gonna consider the total break idea but after this next up of weed (or maybe partway through--I need to work on my discipline anyway) like closer to Xmas.

Definitely try to work you distance up. I used to run around 8 miles a day in the evening, round 5pm, and by 9:30pm I was wiped and ready to get some good sleep.

It is difficult to practice discipline though, I have smoked tobacco for a while. Although it is not extreme (3 cigarettes or a cigar a day) I still know that it's not healthy but I enjoy smoking so I do. I generally don't experience withdrawals if i don't smoke, it is just something that I like to do and possibly always desire some sort of drug psychologically. I am trying to smoke less and less until I get to a point where I can smoke occasionally and actually enjoy it because I'm not constantly worried about the health repercussions. The same technique works for all drugs. Just do them less and less until it becomes less and less of a problem.

I like this and this will be excellent additional motivation. Thanks buddawg! :highfive:

I just quit 7 days ago and I'm craving like a mofo reading that haha.

Honestly, I was the same way--just an on/off smoker who could casually cross the rift between smoker and nonsmoker at will--until I made the mistake of going to rehab. What do people do at rehab? Surprise... the only drug allowed.

I'm gonna try/have to get some moderation stuff going with weed. I just always tend to try to go "all the way" with everything but I recognize that you get less enjoyment, both gross and proportional to consumption, when you do things this way.

I want to be like my best friend where he will literally just pass on a bowl and say he's good if he's already high.

Maybe since it will be stronger from doing it less, spacing it out will solve this :cookiemonster:

You seem to be on the right path. Keep it up. As for cannabis I can take it or leave it. I haven't smoked any in quite a while and I don't really miss it all that much. I do enjoy it, but in the right place at the right time.
