My theory is that you only live once. Burn out while you can. Shine bright for the short time you're allowed on this earth. If that means chugging whiskey and flying down the back roads till you wrap around a tree well then by all means.

yea but we never burn out as fast as we plan too

ending up homeless in your twenties with shitty organs isn't a good feel

i could have prevented it by not drinking and drugging so much as a youth.
whats crazy is how strong of an appeal alcohol has for young kids.

i'm so grateful i grew out of it and not only did i my taste for the stuff, i don't drink at all.

lots of kids pop pills in highschool, and everyone drinks, so the liver damage is just insane when u combine those factors.

hell just binge drinking(the only kind i remember from my teens) on its own wreaks havoc on your body.

its easily the most damaging of the main five or so drugs probably only second to methamphetamine(hella brain damage man)

no sources or anything, but i did used to research and from what i remember, organ damage is insane with aclh.

There are benefits, suppossedly, but in a society where alcohol is a huge industry i'm hesitant to believe them. at the very least there has to be other ways, and probably is, to get the benefits of moderate alcohol usage, without drinking alcohol.

To young to be worrying about this shit man haha, I'm a 3rd year in university. I guess damage from alcohol in particular scares me because I have many male familiar members who abused the hell out of it in their 20s (and still sorta do), and many of them are relatively unintelligent, ridiculously out of shape, and all around lazy. Its stupid for me to let that turn me off from drinking occasionally, I just have a terrible stigma towards the substance now. Getting plastered on weekends is such a common occurrence on weekends here, I do wonder if that kinda of use will show itself in the future. Impossible to know I suppose

and Birdland, that is honestly a very good point. I struggle weighing the benefits of having a good time against what I'm doin to my body

If you do not feel comfortable drinking alcohol then don't do it. It's your choice and alcohol isn't that fantastic anyway in my opinion. You are saying that you have first hand observed that alcohol negatively impacted some of the people around you (this evidence is technically anecdotal) but if you have reason to believe that alcohol contributed to these people's lethargy or lack of intelligence then by all means avoid alcohol.

Well, good that you're cognizant of the effects and a possible genetic predisposition to abusing it.

Don't worry too much though man, don't be afraid to have fun with it when in the moment.

Yea I've got a fantastic circle of friends, couldn't ask for better people. I haven't had much luck with the ladies until recently. Because I don't really enjoy drinking all that much I rarely go to bars, clubs, or parties.

I'm more into chilling at home, smoking, listening to music, or goin out to dinner and trying good food, then taking a walk. Nothing wrong with it, I just don't really end up meeting any girls :frown:. But ya, I recently started seeing this girl I used to be close with a few years ago and I'm really happy about where its goin so all is good:thumbup:

I guess I should specified more in the op, part of my problem is with the substance itself but also with the culture that surrounds at uni. I mean, people meet up, pregame, then go out to places and get more hammered. Its what a large portion of people do and I'm not so into it. Again, its not a terrible thing, I just don't end up meeting all that many people

Are you from England?  Asking because of cultural considerations.

That's awesome man.  Are they sympathetic/receptive to your apprehension to drinking?

I'm dealing with the same stuff.  With I had a good answer for you.

Sober people say "we do the same things you do, only without drinking!".  Partying is an activity in itself though, and I'm not sure how to do that sober

Yeah alcohol culture can be pretty lame. I enjoy drinking once or twice a week and occasionally getting wasted but the culture around it is silly imo, and it's pretty big here in Australia.

I like going out if there's good music involved or if I think there'll be a good crowd (or preferably both). I don't really go to club nights and that kind of thing. I do like gigs and some festivals though. I like partying too but not the way most people do it

Psytrance gigs/festivals seem to have a good party culture going as far as I'm concerned.

Also don't worry about genetic predisposition to alcoholism too much. Half of my immediate family (aside from siblings) are alcoholics but I have no trouble with drinking. It doesn't sound like you're going to get addicted to it anytime soon so don't stress about going a bit hard every once in a while

yes.

a + b = b + a

Same thing. My point is about enjoying oneself; I wouldn't consider drinking myself sick on a regular basis enjoyment.

Getting an alcohol buzz every now and then is fun though and I don't get too many (if any) negatives if it's done in moderation

Nope, but I spent a good while in Australia. I honestly sorta preferred it there, I found the Australians to be much more accepting in bar and club environments compared to Americans.

Yea totally, a lot of them are real big smokers who just like chill instead of goin out and partying. I enjoyed this for a while but I like meeting new people and its usually the same group of dudes.

Its sorta terrible, but I can't party sober. I've got too much social anxiety, I just end up feeling outta place. I recently discovered that comboing phenibut and adderall completely rids me of my social anxiety temporarily, so I've dosing that for concerts and shows which I go to once or twice a month.

and ya Birdland, festivals are the best. I went to a few this past summer and met some fantastic people. There is something specifically about the partying scene in college that just bugs me. I feel like its ridiculous primal, just a bunch of dudes getting hammered looking to fuck some sorority chicks. Maybe I just gotta find some better parties. My buddies back home through some small parties with real down to earth people, those were always a good time.

I will admit though, I love to party if I'm rolling. But thats not something I can be doin on a regular basis, I go way up and then come way down...

drinking culture is a masturbatory and fucking ridiculous culture. if you have to go to party and drink all the time, even if you're doing school... hell, especially when you're in school... well... then... good fucking luck with your shit, is what i say to those people; and don't get so wasted that you make yourself into an ass.

i agree

i still get triggered wen i have to socialize in a situation where people are trying to "mingle"(get laid) and really want to drink

its been months if not a year since i had some too. maybe even two years.

So, obviously i don't cave into the urge to use the go-to "social-lubricant", as i'm still dry, but it amazes me how instant and not alarming the thought to drink away my nerves comes to me.

you'd think i'd want H or something i like but nothing destroys your anxieties or insecurity like alcohol, IMO.
