Anyone noticing a decrease in the quality of mason jars?
    #19224339 - 12/03/13 09:06 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

I've been using Kerr half pint jars with great success.  The original ones I bought Im still using and have probably PCd them 10 times, as well as a couple steam sterilizations before I bought the PC.  But I just bought two packages of jars a week ago and made 2 batches of 10 jars and I noticed cracks in 3 of the jars.  After ONE pressure cooking.  I can understand after several, but after one?  Anyone else had a problem with their jars cracking, even after short use?

I have never experienced a cracked jar in over 3 years of pressure cooking.  And I have bought jars every few months for the past couple years, so not all are old jars.

Is your pressure cooker running low on water during its run?

I had cracking occur when I tried to speed the cooling process.

Venting the steam, or putting a fan on the PC to try and make things quicker has resulted in cracks in the past for me.
