misting/fanning w/ monotubs?
    #19224327 - 12/03/13 09:04 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

got a couple tubs about ready to be fruited, first time with monos, and I've mostly heard that people don't mist or fan at all, but I've also heard people talk about misting/fanning occasionally.  a bit worried about FAE, trying to do it in the same room (well, walk-in closet, with the door open 24/7) as an sgfc so a fan won't be an option.  I also live in a quite dry climate.  any opinions on how much misting/fanning if any at all?

*mini-monos.  20qt tubs.  classic holes, not SGFC/mono hybrid

I mist and fan before first flush almost always.  If I jotice the surface is lacking moisture I mist.  As far as fanning.  I give it a few fans with lid after a mist regardless but a fan in the room should take care of that.  Lest you start to notice seriously fuzzy feet

I personally fan with the lid for a few seconds most mornings and nights (my tubs go in my closet, alothough there is a fan/heater that runs a couple times every hour).  And I mist only when I put the tub into fruiting conditions up until the pins aren't really pins any more.  The reasoning behind that for me is because I have read that evaporation can be a big pinning factor, so if I give the surface a mist every once in a while and it evaporates I hope for more pins.  Whether or not that works I have no clue..

I get slightly fuzzy feet on my brf cakes, not the worst but you can tell the FAE could maybe be better.  however a fan in the room is not an option because of said brf cakes in sgfc...  I'm just wondering because my brf cakes dried up pretty quick in my climate with lots of fanning, misting 5-6 times a day seems to have saved em.

edit: dodgem, that definitely makes sense.  how often do you mist before your pins grow beyond pins?  same as when you fan?  would love to hear some more opinions on this

hate to do this but...  bump.  fruited first one today and fruiting the second one within the next few days.  could looser polyfill compensate for a lack of fan, or will that just dry out the tub faster?  I think I may have stuffed my polyfill a bit tight, I know the top holes should be practically falling out, and I know the bottom ones should be tight, but how tight?  I have it almost as tight as I can possibly get it on the bottom, a lot of polyfill in there.

and more experiences with fanning/misting couldn't hurt.  thanks
