America slipping even further in education

This is almost 3rd world country status... Why? What do we need to change? Should we start adopting some of the same techniques others who are succeeding? http://www.cnycentral.com/news/story.aspx?id=978874#.Up6XRqlDsXs

I say we start killing off people who don't meet a certain IQ requirement.

That's just chilling... 3rd world? Time to do something.
I think much of it is education itself pandering to its metrics instead of its traditional aim. We teach kids how to remember things and perform on tests to get more money, but we don't teach them INDEPENDENT REASONING SKILLS and that's the key part that's missing IMO.
What do you think needs to change?

IQ's such a farce (plus or minus).

No school left standing, more like. Don't you hate how things that sound really noble and productive to voters often are some of the worst or hardest things to actually do?

Because of no child left behind my principal would let us all cheat off of each other on standardized tests so we could get more funding...
I never did it because taking tests are easy, I was the first one done with all but one of the OGTs(Ohio Graduation Test) and I scored better than most(all?) of the people that cheated.

I think they the liberals want a less educated populace more dependent on the State.

Wrong answers tend to go viral during cheating, and it wasn't like they were copying off Swedish or Chinese students...

To be fair, salaried welfare-recipient constituents make for very consistent Dem voters.

What are your thoughts on this type of test being a good representation of how we are doing compared to the rest of the world?

Why do we all care so deeply about this subject? If someone is going to have the drive, their going to go through with it, no matter if their parents push them to or not. I'll bring myself up as an example, even though I am probably a bad one, but My mother was strict as hell when it came to school. At a young age I lost my desire to do any school work. I lost respect for my teachers, because even as a child you can tell if someone is passionate or not. Its rare to come across a teacher who has they're full passion in it, and love what their doing to help make every individual they can achieve their goals. I started out school well, and as time went on, I lost interest. I did just enough to scathe by and got out of there. It was liberating! All I'm trying to say is that when it comes to education, you'll learn if you have the drive and passion for what you're learning. When it comes to the system, though, its hard, because its one way for many. If you ask me, I think its working the way the country wants it to: keeping us dumb, docile, and apathetic; To keep us debating about shit that we have no control over, even if the majority thought one way. Stay classy, and don't ever forget; You're free if you can't see the fence

Our problem is we are trying to highly educate every person, that is not possible or realistic.
I don't care what techniques are used, or how much money is spent, some segments of US society are always going to test in the lower portion of the testing scale.

You think by 15, when this standardized test was given where trying to "highly educate" them?
I agree with that absolutely in later years of education but not at 15. These are basic skill sets

American kids are extremely smart.
But if we take the average (which includes black ghetto kids and hispanic ghettos kids) the score goes down in the double digits.
This isn't a racist post, it's just a fact. Most of them live in poverty and poverty leads to nothing. Its a sad reality

I would assume the Chinese and others have already "weeded out" the under-performers by age 15, something the US might want to consider in the future.
Why throw more good money at bad performance?

That's my point, why waste resources on poor performers. Also, poverty is not a main factor for the poor results, it's culture.

Cultures can change.
These families were raised generation after generation believing that there is no future for them other than poverty or crime.
They need to be given an option, but first we have to get rid of the factors that make them be who they are. Gangs, drugs, discrimation, racism, etc.
