Jacoby Elsbury signs with the Yanks: 7 years 153million

As a die hard Red Sox fan when I first saw that he signed his soul over to the devil i was completely butt hurt about it. But when I saw those numbers I completely changed my mind. Dude is thirty years old, and has only played more than 130 games once. He is without a doubt a complete game changer, but I'm not so sure he's a 153million dollar game changer. But hey, Cheers to him for cashing in.

So does this mean that the Yankees won't re-sign Cano now? They were already supposedly miles apart in contract talks and now with this money doled out to Elsbury -- hard to see them keeping him at this point.

I didn't really follow regular season baseball too much last year but didn't Cano have a monster season? A lot of people are saying Yankees overpaid. How important was he for the Red Sox last year? 7 years 153... That's pretty insane.

Cano had a good year. Hit .314 with 27 homers and 100 plus RBIs. He's a really good player. Hits .300 plus every year, gives you 25-30 HRs, and around 100 RBIs. His production is a constant.

He stays healthy, too, but I think Cano is miles apart with everybody right now. Elsbury is a huge overpay and it makes no sense to me. Why not resign Granderson?

Seattle supposedly has emerged as a major player for Cano. I've heard the Rangers & Tigers also mentioned but I can't see it for Detroit. They just shed a monster contract in Fielder so I doubt that they'd go right back into FA and give out another one. Plus they got Kinsler in that deal and would either have to move him out of position or trade him if they were to go after Cano.

2baggers do not tend to hold up very well. I bet Cano falls off a cliff in a few seasons.

Cano has been remarkably healthy for quite some time. Much more than Elsbury has.
That being said, he is not young. I'd give him huge for 5. No more. He has resilient skills (power and on base) Elsbury not so much (speed and on base). Cano is also a very good 2B The Yanks already had a CF (Gardner) and could have resigned another one (Granderson). I don't get this at all.

The Nat's made out like bandits in the deal where they got Doug Fister.

I have no clue what the Tigers were thinking on that one. None at all. I gots to give Dave Dombrowski the benefit of the doubt because he's one of the 4 or 5 best GMs in baseball, but I honestly have no idea.
Fister was as solid as a rock. And they get back 3 middling prospects? Yeah they trim a little off the payroll but I mean the guy was a bargain at his salary. Seems like a horrible deal. They did sign Joe Nathan today though which was good.
As for the Nats they'll have one of the best staffs in the majors next year.

Yeah bro from what I have gathered nobody understands the deal for the Tigers. And the Kinsler-Fielder deal made so much fuckin sense, too.

I believe they said that last year. I agree with your assessment of the deal but my level of give a shit about the Tigers is pinned leftward.

The Nat's rotation was actually pretty damn good, one of the best in the NL. The problem was their offense.

nats offense was god awful last year, and they can afford Cano, sort of. They're in some tv contract dispute that I actually don't understand, but once they resolve it they could come out a very wealthy team...I think that's why you haven't heard any offers from them towards cano yet.

If the nats could land Cano that would be big time.
