Im writing a research paper on the negative effects the American drug war has had on the rest of the world, If anyone has any articles, scholarly papers, etc that they think might be useful for such an essay Id greatly appreciate it if you could send me some links. Im thinking of focusing on our governments attempts to destroy the traditional ways of the south americans who use the coca leaf, the native americans and peyote, ayahuasca and the amazon, and the bwiti's use of iboga. Any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated :]

I don't really think our government is actively attempting to destroy those cultures, it is just that the drug war is big business and there are too many people financially vested in keeping it going to just say "oh well, we were wrong...let's go do something different...".
But I would suggest looking at what scientists say prohibition does to their ability to research cures for diseases. Definitely a roadblock there. Create your own reasons rather than looking for scholarly papers directly on the drug war. Original thinking makes for better writing and is more interesting to read.

It's a research paper though, so I'm assuming the teacher will want credible citations rather than OP's personal conclusions.

It's pretty fucking stupid to blame the US for the global drug war. Drug prohibition predates US drug laws.

Duh, but you can stack the research in a way that illuminates conclusions that naturally follow, although it may not be stated explicitly within the research.

Oh I plan to create my own reasons, however i do need credible citations to back up the bulk of my statements, I have the ability to write this paper right now, Im just looking for input from others to potentially help illuminate points I may have overlooked :P

While all 3 of those documentaries look fascinating (Ive seen two of them, plan to watch the third tomorrow.)They seem to focus almost entirely on the drug wars effect on americans. Im trying to avoid the topic of how its affected americans, as well as an argument for marijuana, in order to avoid cliches and hot buttons with certain people. I wish to focus on the rest of the world because it is my belief that the majority of Americans are entirely unaware of how our country has handled this "war" on a global scale. My goal is to highlight things like the DEA raiding small family coca farms in South America that had no ties to drug manufacture or trade, how our government has disrupted thousands of lives, taken away peoples buisnesses and homes, and broken families apart in places far from suburban America, for minor things that likely had zero effect on our country, all because we dont agree with their way of life.
To people on the shroomery, and those who keep up with recent drug news a lot of these things may seem like old news, however I believe most Americans are entirely unaware of the majority of these crimes against humanity. Most people would be shocked to hear some of these facts, while bringing up the number of drug arrests, or facts for the legalization of cannabis are much more desensitized issues that many people will have an immediate negative reaction to based on their personal upbringings.
Im debating whether I should touch on the Mexican Drug cartels, Id have to find some reliable statistics on drug use in america vs drug use in mexico to properly back my point.
If anyone would like to argue against any of the topics Ive brought up that would also be extremely helpful, as i have to present both sides of the argument.
Any and all input and help is highly appreciated :]
