If it's pinning then it's not overlayed.

overlayed substrate can still pin, just wont grow as evenly.

what strain does she have ?
i've noticed that a lot of the asian strains tend to do that .
as long as mycelium is fluffy lookin' and not glossed over, it's all good

Quote from the FAQ: "Mushrooms will NOT grow from overlay, as the mycelia layer is dead on top, and cannot be penetrated from below."

Read this.

technically, i stand corrected....

but the casing will pin in areas that are healthy, resulting in an uneven pinset. i personally never realy had a problem with overlay and guess i neglected to reserach it. max i ever had a casing incubating before cold shock is about 72 hours, and once you see that white- its BIRTHDAY time!!!!

the strain is hawaiin. it has hundreds of nots all over the top.
i incubated for about a week. the mycelium looks fluffy. I might just be paranoid because it looks like im gonna have one of the best pinsets ive ever had. ive done lots of casings before with equador and amazon. but the casing surface looks alot different than those. and ive never seen nots like that.

i think my cats problem is overlay, but she does have many fruits. gonna try heavier layer of verm on next pans and less compost.

hellfreak, your PRs are doing fine .that's how they should look .

preschooler, hawaiin is a good strain . nobody seems to know where they originally come from .i think, its just an arbitrary name they gave that strain . cubes are not native to Hawaii .
glad that tec works for ya...err, i mean grandma .

to keep from getting overlay on a casing is knowing the exact time to birth it.and learning to patch case with success and once its 90 to 100 percent colonized. birth it!!! someone correct me if im wrong i am a newbie

well.....it was pretty well covered when it started to pin...but i think a 2nd flush might be out of the question, time will tell. Any suggestions?

hellfreak...it does look like overlay but you got some nice fruits growing so I wouldn't worry about it....as for 2nd flush...just add some more casing layer before fruiting it
