Simple Flow Hood Build - Thanks Shroomery!

Hi Folks! I wanted to share my flow hood I built. I wanted to post this because, this is the first project I've ever built and I'm not great with my hands yet so I wanted to show how one could put this together fairly easily without much know how.
I was really intimidated and it didn't turn out to be as bad as I thought, also knowing that everything didn't have to be perfect for it to work properly was comforting.
I just used melamine boards, grabber screws, white silicon, L-Shaped brackets, drill, jigsaw, electrical tape, electrical caps. I think it's a 48" Hepa and I can't remember the model for the Dayton motor but I can get it. I had a variable speed controller but from what I read they can ruin the motor, so I tossed it to the side. Threw on the prefilter and covered the intake with some left over melamine to get the desired flow.
Hope this helps anyone who hasn't ever done a construction project and is possibly intimidated by the entire process. Once you start on something like this and finish it, I think you will have more confidence and become a more of a do-it-yourself-er. It proved to me I could construct something and have it operational, although I couldn't have done it with out the amazing resources here on shroomery!

Nice! I know what you mean, you don't realize how much easier things are until you actually have the work space. I just poured a whole sleeve of petri-dishes and remembered all of the struggle from the still air box, thinking "Damn! I should have done this sooner".
Now bag to bag transfers are really possible.

Sab is very effective. By all means continue if it works for you. I purchased the hepa filter a few years ago and it sat around until I grew up a bit and had the courage to try and build it. I have poured agar in a sab but a flow hood with a semi clean room is great because you have almost free range of motion. It makes spawning multiple bags much easier, and the agar work is much easier.
As far as price, I want to say the filter mad blower was about 400$ it's been a while so that # could be off, probably is. Plus melamine boards, and power equipment. Honestly I've come to the point where I don't think bout expense. I still shop around but when it come to my mycology, I do what I gotta do lol the visa comes out and I just get it. However I think it was still cheaper than purchasing one. The experience alone was worth it MHO.

the reason I asked was cause I was thinking about buying this: http://www.fungi.com/product-detail/product/the-series-i-laminar-flow-hood.html
so the price for your build is about in the same range and it will get dropped off at my house lol

That's a good option if u don't want to build your own my filter is twice that size though, I think the 48inch model from fp is a lot more. If u have the cash and don't mind paying a little more it is certainly less time consuming
