Top or bottom end up for fruiting cakes
    #19221690 - 12/03/13 11:34 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

I was wondering if cakes fruit best with bottom or top end up, or does it matter? I'm assuming that the place where the mycelium colonizes first will have the stronger pinsets later on due to longer consolidation, and mycelium generally colonizes toward the top of the jar, so should the top-lid end go up instead of down?

They're going to pin where the conditions for pinning are best. It really doesn't matter but I put mine wide end down.

It doesnt matter which way you put em in the sgfc, like bod said, they will fruit where the conditions are best.. mine always pin on the bottom more so than anywhere else prob due to water being sucked outta perlite or collecting drops on the foil

When I did cakes, I would flip them upside down when I put them in the SGFC. Something about that nice smooth surface on top, very appealing to my eyes

In all honesty though, it doesn't matter
