why do we get bored?

You would think the very point we exist at all would be enough of a reason to not be bored. I feel that our soul which processes emotion is at an understanding of what's possible beyond our physical realm. Like the soul can encounter seemingly boundless environments. Could be a little farfetched.
What are your ideas?

It's because we've lost touch with nature.

Great question! Being bored is one of my least favorite emotions, if you can even call it that. I had so much fun growing up that I'm often bored these days and I'm not even old yet. Maybe being bored is for lazy people or those who lack creativity....now that I think about it no.
When I'm coming off of a drug I easily get bored. You know you have time your going to need to occupy to get your mind off ill feelings, but it's absolutely impossible sometimes to avoid. Boredom is a shitty thing all around what more can I say.
I'd like to see what everyone else has to say.

I find that I only get uncomfortably bored in situations where I'm usually just waiting for something. Like when I'm on the train back from the city to where I live. Sometimes I won't get a seat by the window because its too crowded and I'll end up sitting on the edge staring mindlessly. Its those kinda situations that kill me. I usually just whip out my phone and mess around but if its dead I end up just sitting there feeling awkward. Same thing when I'm at the docs office sitting in the waiting room. I feel like this is normal though
Sitting out in nature is a completely different story though, I love sitting in front of a fire and just staring, or laying in a field and just looking up at the sky.

Most humans in civilized countries have everything they could ever need.
The kids of today grow up with a sense of entitlement and don't understand what is given to them is a privilege not a right, grow up getting everything and you will have nothing to respect/enjoy. Grow up with nothing and enjoy every small thing given to you along the way.
The appreciation for life is easily overlooked for the appreciation of wealth.

Boredom is programmed into us. It's a feeling. We need it for many reasons. My best assumption is that its a primal instinct to keep the brain active and alert. This could prevent a lion attack or some shit.

It also protects against complacency, necessitating progress.

Pretty much this. We are constantly being distracted by arbitrary notions of "success" and "responsibility" as well as cheap thrills that we forget to tend to the things that really matter to us. Ie, family, community, passion, self-expression, spirituality (or a general sense of wonder for those who want to nitpick what spirituality really is)
Basically we're so focused in on our little niche that we forget to reach out to the world around us and appreciate it's offerings and opportunities.
Not all of us of course. But for the many of us who are bored and discontent that is the issue
