Have you seen The Social Network
Facebook was created by a college kid, not a government corporation

I know, but they agreed to have a deal with the government, whereas MySpace was its own thing.

MySpace tanked once it was bought by NewsCorp. Fucking Rupert Murdoch.

Ha. In 2011, NewsCorp sold it to Justin timberlake. That is really funny, considering Timberlake's role in the social network

Myspace was dope when it first came out. But Facebook was the best, I miss having debates on random topics, talking to girls on there and just messing with\pissing people off. Now it's just dead and boring and no one posts funny posts anymore.

"I want to respond personally to the outrageous press reports about PRISM:
Facebook is not and has never been part of any program to give the US or any other government direct access to our servers. We have never received a blanket request or court order from any government agency asking for information or metadata in bulk, like the one Verizon reportedly received. And if we did, we would fight it aggressively. We hadn't even heard of PRISM before yesterday.
When governments ask Facebook for data, we review each request carefully to make sure they always follow the correct processes and all applicable laws, and then only provide the information if is required by law. We will continue fighting aggressively to keep your information safe and secure.
We strongly encourage all governments to be much more transparent about all programs aimed at keeping the public safe. It's the only way to protect everyone's civil liberties and create the safe and free society we all want over the long term." -Mark Zuckerberg, June 7, near Menlo Park, CA

Even an arbitrary ranking of importance via "top friends" was cool. All around myspace > facebook. I have no idea why people switched.
This. Very much.
And it was government brainwashing and subtle propaganda that did it. Facebook is so a CIA/NSA info gathering OP.

Speaking of which.... did anyone hear about how the conspiracy websites abovetopsecret and godlikeproductions (and was there one other one, too...? I can't recall...) all actually shut down at pretty much the same time as all the government websites shut down, back when that government shutdown thing was happening? True story-- look that shit up. I think ATS claimed they got DDOSed or something. Like that doesn't seem like just way too weird of a coincidence for reality....

You made me remember how much I miss the days of customizable profile
On a side note has anyone moved on to Google+ yet? IMO it looks like the social network website to take over from Facebook I think it seems cool but sadly none of my friends use it

Exactly! I don't use it either because nobody I know uses it, but I feel like that might change soon with the whole change that's been made to YouTube's comment section

Ugg. Customizable profiles are what made MySpace so unusable.

That's what made it great, you could search people locally by sex and I think age, great for stalking strangers. Not that I ever did that.
Myspace was great for bands though, it was like a free website.

I kind of want to not use it for that very reason. That annoys the shit out of me. I have to sign in, a second time, with google, to fucking comment? I'm already signed in to youtube. How about, google can go fuck themselves, instead?
Not to mention the crappy boring ass comments that are on ALL the fucking videos now. "Here's a video of some funny stuff-- I hope you enjoy it" because some fuckwit shared it with their friends on google+ or whatever. I KNOW what the video is. I'm on the goddamned page. I do not need to see that redundant bullshit. I go to youtube comments to yell at assholes for being stupid, and laugh at other peoples' drama. Not to read the google+ commentary of some boring fuck.

I think me and you discussed this last month in a different thread and I kind of supported what Google was doing because I was very interested in the features Google+ was offering, but now when I think about it I do agree that the Google+ shares that come up on videos are retarded.
Did YouTube not allow you to link your Google+ and YouTube account together so that you don't have to go back and also log into a Google+ account to comment on videos? Maybe I'm wrong
I will agree that Google have complicated everything to an unnecessarily ridiculous level and can go fuck themselves in that case

those social network sites are all traps. there's other ways to keep connected with friends and family, and you don't need to establish a "public internet profile" to do so
