Found this on wood chips in east bay area, tri-valley.  These are all pics of the same mushroom, various close-ups.

Sort of?

It is clearly darkening where I pinched the cap and where I broke the stem off, but I would not say it is definitively blue.  In fact I think I have to reach a little to say it is blue.

I think I see black/blue bruising at the cut, cap edge and stem. Subbs? not likely from wood chips. Need confirmation on the bruising (stem, blue/black bruising?) and a spore print color.

Given that you don't see any blue staining, just darkening, my guess is that you have a Psathyrella species.

seeing as its not definitively blue and the cap has broken so easily and without a nice gelatinous pellicle, id also say Psathyrella species.

The cap is breaking like Psathyrella, and the way the cap is drying out is very un-psilocybe like.

Best ID's anywhere!! New to LBM's and this place is great! Sorry to the OP, but kudos for posting! Two TI's say psathyrella BASED ON CAP FRAGILITY!!! nice!

So psathyrella show a little blackish bruising? that could seriously confuse a novice like me.?.

From what i have noticed and based on my own experiance, My area is very dry most of the time and a lot of allenii i find that aren't covered look exactly like that, now i am not saying i know better(obviously)as i find other fungi that look like that as well, and I'm not saying op should eat them based on anything I say. I just don't see fragmentation of the stem like i normally see in psathyrella..

Post a better picture of the underside of the cap where you cut. Also, were they growing in clusters? or just alone?

Here is a spore print.  I know my pictures look like hell, not sure what I'm doing wrong there, sorry.

I'd say it's brown or rust colored.

It was growing in a patch, but it was dark out and the area was barely lit by streetlamp, so I'm not sure if this one was solo or with others just like it.

I'd call that purplish brown, not rust-colored. I've seen corroded iron in that color, but it's not the archetypal rust color, which would be much more orange.

Yeah, I'm not seeing any orange there either. A spore print on white paper might have been better. The "purple" of Psilocybe spores always looks pretty subtle to me. More like "off brown leaning toward purple".

I don't know which Psathyrella have brown spores, but I've read that some do. Without a definitive ID of blue bruising (which always looks blue/black to me) and a purple spore print (which always looks brown/purple to me) I'd say listen to the higher minds and don't eat them.

Spore print looks purple/brown to me.

As RanD said, more pics!

yes more pics, i also notice that the "cap breakage" seems to be from handling rather than wind..

Attempting better pic of underside, where I think bluing where the stem was cut is most prevalent (if it is there at all).

I want to call that bruising blue but the picture is dark, shine a light and then take a picture at the same time.

I'd hate to see you throw away an allenii :frown: haha.. also, leave the cap on the foil longer next time, you will get a darker more definite print

at this point just let the cap dry out, it may bruise more if active..
