first bulk grow (GT brf cakes)

So I decided to try spawning 6 BRF cakes to cow manure/coir/verm mixture in an aluminum pan. The sub was pasteurized in a stovepot at ~160°F for 75 minutes or so. Here's some pics:

I had some leftovers so I filled up two small plastic containers. Is it ok to just use the plastic snap-on instead of aluminum foil to cover the tray? How long should I wait before checking for colonization? I'm assuming the smaller ones will be done faster than the big tray, but I know the spawn ratio isn't exactly ideal. Do I need to poke holes for gas exchange? Thanks everyone.

Yeah the lid will be fine, I wouldn't poke holes in the top but you may. You can check everyday if you'd like lol. I'd say that will take 12-18 days to colonize. BRF spawned to bulk can be tricky and by tricky I mean TRICHy as in a lot of the times I spawned to bulk they would get contaminated. Did you use a verm layer??

Yeah, it was more for practice and getting used to the process over anything. Hopefully it doesn't contaminate though. What do you mean a verm layer, like on top? I made a very, very thin top layer of coir/verm.

No I mean in your PF jars. There is supposed to be a dry verm layer placed on top of your jars. If you incorporated that layer of dry verm into your bulk substrate then kiss that tray goodbye..
I would always cut the top of my cakes for that exact reason.

Oh haha yes I used a dry verm layer and scraped/rinsed it all off before crushing up the cakes I just found out that mushroom metabolites tend to eat right through the aluminum, and I didn't line it with anything

Okay good, that should decrease the chances of contams by a lot. Eat through the aluminum? No way man, really? Send me the link cause I doubt mycelium could eat through solid aluminum. I've used plenty of trays like that with success.
