Making a lid for my dugout (1 hitter)

My friend gave me this as a gift and it's nice, but the lid would not open so I had to break it off. To make things better the screw is stripped. Any of you have any thoughts on how to make a new lid? I don't know how to get this screw out without destroying the whole thing.
I'm thinking about just sawing the screw off so it's flush to the wood, and then creating a lid that has protrusions to fit into each hole. It would have to be pretty accurate though to get a tight enough fit to be secure not sure that I can do that.

Get one of those bits that they show in that. I've done it before a few times lately when I was painting some cabinets and replacing the hinges - the old ones were practically glued to the doors with paint and age. Drill a deeper but smaller diameter hole into the existing screw head hole and then use one of those bits to back the screw out, but it does take a fair amount of pressure. I'd put the dugout in a vice if you can find one in order to make things easier. Or if the screw is sticking out far enough, you could use a pair of pliers to back out the screw.
Then you can just take a flat piece of wood and whittle or Dremel it to fit the top, stick a new screw in that matches (might need to use some kinda glue to hold it in there after removing the old one) and bam, good as new.

That looks like a case hardened screw. Your best bet is to get a heavy duty vice grips and unscrew it. I don't think you are going to be drilling it out. Good luck.

Get a set of these:

Then, plug the hole with a piece of wooden dowel and some glue. Drill a pilot hole into the wooden dowel for the new cover you'll make.

Thanks guys.
I just used a pair of pliers and held the outside of the screw head in place then just used that as a screwdriver, worked perfectly. Such a simple solution don't know why I didn't try that first.
Now I just need to make the lid not constantly swivel
