Being a paranormal investigator.....
    #19218524 - 12/02/13 06:05 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Outside of reality shows do you think you can market yourself as a 'paranormal investigator' and make a living do it?

I feel like there are people out there that would hire that think they are being haunted.  It might take a good reputation to make it up to a certain point tho, but I think that does sound like it can be an interesting career.

I think you can do it as a hobby or a side job but most likely you won't make a living off it. I am just making a guess though. That would be really fun to do though

I feel like it'd be a lot more about theatrics than anything else; if you can put on a show, get some sensors to fluctuate, and just generally get people excited then MAYBE someone could do this as a career. You'd really have to make people feel like they're getting something experience-wise in order to get them to talk about it with their friends, etc.

You could print out certificates and whatnot, too, that say like "Verified Ghost-Free" or whatever with reading levels and your company name and people might hang them up for conversation pieces... marketing could be easy this way.

This really seems like it would bode better as a hobby or side job. I think most "professional" paranormal investigators fall into these categories.

There are a lot of "investigators" who come and burn sage in your house etc. Its an industry where the highest aim is to get a TV show.

I found paranormal investigation classes online. http://goforward.harpercollege.edu/ce/enrichment/paranormal.php I think that could be bad ass to take.  I think you would get a lot of credit if you said some places had no evidence of hauntings or if it did such as a house being on top of an old Indian burial ground or the house being linked to previous murders those can be clues as well.  I think there's a lot that can go into investigating paranormal activity.

Honestly, I think its the type of thing where you have the personality to do it, or you don't.  If you're friendly, convincing, and can get people to believe  you could probably get something going.  It would be similar to being a psychic.

I don't think you'd really learn the business from classes, none of the science is really objective and/or been replicated.

Word. I think if I tried to actually do it maybe I'd start off volunteering in nearby areas or maybe doing it for a low price.  I think doing it nowdays would involve a lot of online research into what you are dealing with.  :mushroomtwirl:

Googling stuff isn't research. The whole field is a scam. If you have ESP then you semi-qualify. Otherwise you're just guessing around based on BS you find on the internet.
