Found this in Orange County, growing in some normal grass in between a walkway Cap is almost 1in. stem is almost 2in. The cap dark brown to light brown to grey and the stem is gets darker towards the bottom. Would be my first active find, even though I only found one there Getting spore print now

Two other taxa that fit that description are Panaeolus olivaceus and P. fimicola. It does not look much like Panaeolus olivaceus, however to determine if it is P. fimicola you will need to check to see if it has sulphidia with a microscope.

Depends on your definition of looks like cinctulus. There are other mushrooms in the genus Panaeolus that look very similar to cinctulus.

The spore print looks more like dark walnut brown than black, which points in the direction of Panaeolus foenisecii. The dark stem points in the direction of Panaeolus cinctulus or P. fimetaria however.

Take pics of the spore prints in brighter light, perhaps full sun or very bright shade.
Check the spore ornamentation with a microscope.
Also with a microscope, check to see if you can find sulphidia on the gill faces.
