Edible mushroom help
    #19216597 - 12/02/13 10:26 AM (10 years, 2 months ago)

Hey so today i found some mushrooms growing on a small leaf covered grass mound, next to a birch tree near a bus stop i regularly use. I suspect that they may be Wood Blewits because the habitat is right and they look sort of similar, but i am by no means an expert. They have a lighter colouration around the edge, and are darker in the middle.

The Cap of one of the larger mushrooms, larger caps seem to have a sort of mushroomy smell, smaller caps have no distinguishable smell that i can detect.

Gills

These were growing in close proximity to the "blewits", they sort of look like Entoloma Rhodopolium and i know they are often found near blewits.

Where the blewits were growing, sorry for the photo my bus actually rounded the corner at this point
My location is west midlands, UK
A spore print is in progress, any help is appreciated
thanks

Although they appear to be quite large; I'd venture a guess to say they will fall into the Genus Pluteus.

Did you take a spore print?

Either way they look nothing like any Blewitt I've ever seen in the States.  The Blewitt I pick is Clitocybe nuda (formerly Lepista nuda)

Could it be a Tricholoma species, maybe something like Tricholoma terreum?

Shouldn't that have scales? Dark and very small?

Which "that" are you referring to?

From what I can find right quick T. terreum seems to have the same fibers as the mushroom in question, and averages 4-7cm in diameter.

Pluteus cervinus also has those "fibers" on its cap and has been documented growing up to 15cm (although in my area they seem to average 6-10cm)

Sorry, on my mobile op's don't appear to have any fibers, the gills also look more like pluteus than tricholoma

Pluteus for sures, what was the gill attachment, should be free.
Your second species is Cortinarius
Your last might be Tricholoma species. Im not really sure though, its pretty blurry, remember, gill shots!

Where the gills meet the stem is important =)

GOOD LUCK!

I think the first 2 pics are Tricholoma.
Gill attachment would clear this up.

Pretty Possible, especially when looking at the pileus.
