PC'ing PFTEK questions

Hey.
Having previously used grow bag systems to very mixed results, I thought I'd try things the old fashion way. PFTEK.
So I picked up a PC cooker and inoculated two jars. It's been three days and so far no signs of life. It's probably early days, of course and the good news is no signs of contams, either.
However, I'm wondering if I borked the PC stage. When I look at my jars, a big of the BRF appears to have been washed to the buttom. Is that an instant show stopper, like contams?
Also, on my PC if I put even less water in, it only gives me 10 or so minutes cooking time. So if I'm to PC jars for 40 mins, will stopping the PC and topping up each 10 minutes to make 40 be OK?
Alternatively, maybe I should give rye seed a go instead?

It sounds like you are trying to run the heat too high on your pc. You can put the burner on high until the weight starts to wobble but then turn the heat down to med/low so the weight just barely wobbles. This way you don't boil out all your water.
As for your cakes I'm not sure what you mean. Did they get water in them in the pc cycle?

Did you get your pc used?
I noticed while trying to find one at thrift shops that most did not have the weights.
If mom hadn't of used one to make mashed tatters I would have never known a part was missing.

Thanks for the advice!!!!!
I'm going to return the PC as it was new, something is duff about it. Today I borrowed another PC off a friend which works properly. He says I can borrow it. But bad news is, it doesn't come with the internal steamer tray / platform. Dooooooooooooooh.
So I'm freaking out wondering how I can improvise one. DiY jobbie or something. I saw em on eBay but for like £10 no way! Cant I just make my own? It's got to be under 20 cm to fit......hmmm

Jar lid rings. Tinfoil balls/rings. I have even used a dish towel to keep the jars off of the bottom of the pan.
