First grow! (Pictures inside - advice appreciated)

Hi there! This is my first time posting on the forums, but I've been lurking for a bit more than a month.
I just finished the dunk n' roll of my first of twelve BRF cakes, and I'm posting a couple of pictures for you guys to check out and to critique. This cake was the first to reach 100% colonization one week ago. For the record, it's Cubensis B+.

--------------------------------------------------
Edit One: Another two cakes were ready for birthing last night, and I put them in for a 12 hour dunk before adding them to the fruiting chamber as well. I've been vigilant with my misting and fanning, and I'm excited to see what comes next! 9 jars remain to finish colonizing. Also, I have removed the towel that was sitting beneath the SGFC because the perlite is no longer overly soaked and dripping. FAE should be a go!

Is the setup still looking solid? I'm still doing a ton of reading to ensure that from this point onward I don't manage to screw anything up.
--------------------------------------------------
Edit Two: I've let these grow for the past 4 days, and there is some serious progress! I counted my mins a few hours ago, and I was up to 63. Can't believe how well this is going so far. Here are some updated pictures of the 3 most well-developed cakes.

And here is the cake from my last post which had the one big pin.

I love these cakes and little shroomies as though they're my children. This is such a good time. I'm going to begin growing mushrooms (including gourmet ) in bulk and work on agar and isolation next.

Hi Curlee,
I'm new as well, planning on starting my first grow next month. Your setup looks nice, I'm going to keep an eye on this thread to see how it turns out. Hope it goes well!

Ah, best of luck to you as well!
Specifically, if anyone looks at this thread, how long should I expect to wait before I begin to see new signs of growth on my cake? I'm looking for an average, not an exact time, of course.

I'm bumping the thread for visibility. Could really use some criticism. Attempting this in the still-dark, early morning of learning is rough without some guidance. :P

The dunk should be for 24 hours. I see some discoloration on the cakes. Cakes tend to bruise blue when they are dehydrated. I know you can re dunk your cakes if they are dehydrated and it won't be a problem. I would wait for more opinions on the matter though before you do anything. I do not have very much experience with cakes.

you should see pinning in the second week. I have done 2 pf-tek grows and both times pinning started on day 9, it could be sooner or later though
mist heavy 2 o 3 times a day max , and fan right after misting and one time in between misting if schedule allows, or at least at night time when you are back home. The trick is always allow for your cakes to dry up a bit before misting again
get a 6500k cfl light and use a 12 on 12 off schedule
that's pretty much it

Do you prefer bulk? That's where I intend to go after this first set of cakes gives me a crash course in beginner stuff. I did up my misting a little bit, and the perlite is properly moistened. I've read in several different posts that 12 hours is almost as effective as 24, and that 24 is really on the side of excessive. However, everyone's experience is different in one way or another. The bruising is probably because I handled them too roughly during birthing, but I'll keep an eye on it and re-dunk if necessary.

Thanks! Any suggestions for if I don't see pinning by the second week? Obviously you haven't dealt with a scenario like that, but maybe you've done some reading that I haven't.

I do prefer bulk/mono tubs. I love mono tubs. They are so simple once you learn the basics. If your tub is dialed in right it is set and forget. The work involved is soooo much less than with cakes. Plus the yields are sooo much more than that of cakes.
I don't mess with cakes. I am just going off of what is explained in the Let's Grow Mushrooms video. You should be fine. Cakes will bruise from over handling them.

You can mist more than 3 times a day.. mist whenever the orevious misting has evaporated..

Some progress. The first cake I put into the chamber has apparently pinned a little without my notice! I flipped it over so that the shroom underneath may have room to grow. If this is not an acceptable technique, please let me know. Additionally, one of the cake I birthed tonight had begun one pin in-vitro! Excellent!

beginning to realize this with my first two mini-tubs. I've had to mist and fan occasionally, every day/every other day or so, but still a hell of a lot less maintenance than cakes. pins are looking a lot better than on the cakes too to be honest. will probably be going with just monos from now on... maybe use the SGFC for some smaller trays
edit: ha, forgot. looking pretty good op.

Thanks! I've been so nervous that I would screw something along the way, and it's going so much better than I could have dreamed. My agar, pressure cooker, and other supplies are coming in over the next week or two. It's time to get serious.
Edit: Oh, and can anyone tell me what the white spots are on my pins? There are no odd smells or colors in the SGFC, but it still concerns me slightly. I believe, however, that I read somewhere before that it's harmless. Could use some reassurance.
