What do you think about scary movies/novels?

Maybe It's because I've become more sensitive these past couple of years (think of it as restoring back to natural/optimal levels) but I was just watching this movie "House at the end of the street" and I had to change it 2 wilfred cuz it was all scary lol
I can see the thrill behind it and whatnot but I dunno, what do you guys think?
Do you like the mental stimulation from bad negative scary movies and stuff like that?

Pontypool is a good one. It genuinely creeped me out in some parts:

Pontypool was great.
And Sheekle, check out Cabin in the Woods. It's kind of scary at times, but overall, it's making fun of common themes in scary movies.

I rarely watch them, but they're alright in moderation...
I don't like watching them alone though.

I saw that I thought it was more on the boring side of the spectrum to be honest, still worth the watch though

I like zombie movies, good ones not bad ones though.
I remember watching this really old one it was fucking awesome, they were like in a mall at one point and then in like a military base near the ending, something with a helicopter at one point
It was old though you could tell by the way it looks, I've never been able to find that one again wish I knew what it were called

I don't find movies scary at all if I'm sober. I often view them objectively my enjoyment comes from how well the scenes are put together and the filmographic techniques used, rather than being subjectively afraid/thrilled.
On the other hand if I watch a movie while on the green I'll get super deep into it and get frightened and scared. It's a completely different experience

Like the original Dawn of the Dead? I'm not sure, was there a underground miltary base and a helicopter in that one?
Zombies were not blue as I recall

When I was young (starting from 4ish) I watched a lot of Japanese scary movies (I'm half Japanese).
With an overactive imagination I feared the supernatural to an almost unhealthy degree with morbid curiosity for more. It just kept building and building, although now I've mellowed out quite a bit in terms of creating scenarios in my head whenever I find myself in a creepy place just for the adrenaline rush.
I still get that urge to freak myself out just because I can but it's not near as bad thanks to awareness. One good thing about going through that whole scary movie phase is that horror films now have no effect on my life (e.g. not being able to sleep because you can't stop thinking about the movies, or waking up multiple times in a night because of a scary scene etc...).

Scary movies and novels are fine. I like the edge of the seat suspense, and the getting spooked and all, but these days scary movies aren't so much as scary as they are just plain fucked up.
I expect the characters to get killed in these stories. I expect some gore and general gruesomeness, but modern scary movies seem to be more like simulated snuff films of torture flicks. Movies like the Saw series or Hostel are the types I refuse to watch anymore, they have no real substance. They tend to only rely on shock value and grizzly details. They lack artistry.
Give me the classics like Alien and Aliens, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The first two Childs Play movies, The Exorcist, Dawn of the Dead, or at least movies that emulate the style of these classics.
