Mushroom with conical cap growing on newly fertilized lawn
    #19213807 - 12/01/13 05:22 PM (10 years, 1 month ago)

Found this one growing around the newly fertilized lawn in my gated community.

I tried making a spore print for this one and after about 24 hours when I went to check on it, it was completely decomposed and turned into this liquid/goo.
I'm brand new to mushroom hunting and I'm wondering if its the way I made the spore print that made this happen.
I put the cap on aluminum foil and covered it with another piece of aluminum foil in order to prevent contamination.  I put all this on top of a wooden bookshelf ~3 ft high. Is it possible this liquid could have eaten through the foil or somehow gotten into the wood? I'm now scared there might be mold spores in the small crevices of the wood and I might have just inadvertently introduced mold inside my room.  For good measure, I wiped the wooden bookshelf off with a paper towel soaked with a diluted bleach solution and dried it off.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Habitat:  Newly re-fertilized lawn in Southern California
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.

Gills:dark green(?), free
Color, attached/not, gills/pores, etc.

Stem: ~6 cm in length, ~0.5 cm in diameter, white, smooth texture, thin
Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.

Cap: Creamy(?) color, 4-4.5 cm in diameter, conical shape
Diameter, color, texture, conical/spherical, convex/concave, etc.

Spore print color: tried to get one but cap just melted away into goo.
Very important!

Bruising: none
Color that the mushroom bruises, if any.

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

You found an inky cap, I'd go with Coprinellus.
