Killer Whales
    #19213504 - 12/01/13 04:07 PM (10 years, 2 months ago)

These guys are upper level predators. Their intelligence is phenomenal.

I would say they are the apex predator of the oceans.

I'm not sure if it is because of their pack lifestyle or just their own intelligence and strength.

check these out if you wanna get mind blown (to some level)

This one is a bit gimmicky but still...

I watched a nature documentary a few days ago, and some killer whales ganged up on a mother grey whale and her cub and drowned the baby whale...
I don't like killer whales anymore.

My cat does that, it's awesome.

Orcinus orca is one of my favorite animals.

Check out "Blackfish" if you haven't already.

Yes, a fantastic example of animal intellect. I read this article earlier, tool use in crocodiles.

I recently saw a news broadcast on this. They found an ancient killer whale lying at the bottom of the sea. Noone knows exactly how old it was, but it must be nearly pre historic. I'm hoping that I can get the opportunity to become a whale specialist & study the lives of whales since they fascinate me so much!

They are also extremely adaptive to problems.  For example, they have learned to spin upside down before they grab a sting ray from the floor of the ocean, because once they spin back rightside up, the sting ray will now be upside down and unable to move anymore.

Also, when a seal jumps up on a piece of floating ice to escape the orcas, they will swim back and forth towards the piece of ice, causing waves to go up onto the ice and rock it until the seal falls off.

They even know how to specifically kill Great Whites, by slamming them so hard in the side of the body that they are stunned, while stunned the Orca grabs em and turns them upside down so they can no longer function, like the Sting ray, its amazing.
