I hate drama and hated to be a source of it. If its still a debate when i get up, i will share my point in depth. Not gonna discuss it in my current frame of mind. One love to all, GG

As for OP, dont break the jars, use the spoon method mentioned, it only seems to be the most simple, and effective way of releasing the cake from the jar with the shoulders. Its what I would personally do, though I am no expert. If you are still insisting on the window, I would get a bit craft with your original lid, or simply go buy a clear lid. If craft I would buy a small piece of plexiglass, cut out a hole slightly smaller than the plexiglass ( by like a half inch ) and glue it down using hot glue or something along those lines on the underside of the lid.

No, you're OK. They were wrong to be rude, and you were also right about the light helping with fresh air exchange in a shotgun terrarium.
The light warms up the interior of the terrarium, and this lowers the pressure slightly due to the molecules of air being farther apart. This causes the air to exit the terrarium holes as the relatively cooler, more humid air in the perlite migrates upward.(remember, moist air is lighter than dry air so it rises) This helps greatly with air exchange during the daylight cycle. The same thing happens if you put the terrarium in a window with sunlight.
You don't need to cut a window in the lid. 80% of the light which enters comes in through the sides. Just place your CFL lamp slightly above and to one side of the terrarium. Keep it within 5 or 6 inches(10 cm) for best results. If the terrarium heats up too much, back the light away slightly. RR

I hope I wasnt one of the folks' giving out bad vibes, I was merely making fun at the posts before as an effort to verbally " roll my eyes " at the lack of diligence of the posts.
If you have any questions, feel free to send me a PM and I will help with the research, there are a lot of good folks on these boards. Always feel free to send someone a PM if you get good vibes from them, and they may just become your best ally on your quest in this beneficial hobby.

Just spoon out your cakes and spawn them to some coir or coir and verm. That's what I do with all of my cakes now, and it works very well for me. Allow the mycelium to colonize the substrate in a smaller tub, then plop the whole thing out like a very large cake into the SGFC.

How did you get those cakes out of those jars intact? The shoulders of the jars make it seem physically imposable.

It was a smash and grab type job, but a gentle one.
As for the Pyramids I'm with Terrance McKenna. Shrooms must have had something to do with it!

Ah. I didn't count on you smashing your jars. I stand corrected.
