Benzodiazepines=An absolute real encounter with a Demon

So I'm still in detox and it's been a month since I stopped taking Xanax 1mg at bedtime. I would tell anyone that has been using Benzos for more that 3 weeks to seriously consider the withdrawal effects. I was prescribed Xanax by my doctor because I made an excuse of anxiety to get the Rx because I seriously wanted to know what a Xanax experience was. There are so many TV shows with characters that mention taking Xanax or Kolonopin thus leading to the curiosity.
I was on Xanax 1mg for a year at 1 per night for sleep. Everytime I ran out I would get a flue like sickness, so I would get a refill and it went away. My insurance recently lapsed because of Obamacare, so I cold turkey went off the drug.
I'd have to say that the withdrawal is worse than a bad mushroom trip. You won't sleep for days and you loose appetite. You also get wicked diarrhea and your sense of hearing and smell are off.
It's been 5 weeks since I went off. I am still not 100%. I have been drinking wine with Benedryl to ease my symptoms.

Well the ugly truth. The medical professionals are not your friend. Who'd a thunk they are lying to us all sorts fo things.
They do take a hypocrites oath after all.
Best of luck to you in getting forever out of their clutches.

"Alprazolam can be habit-forming. Do not take a larger dose, take it more often, or take it for a longer period of time than prescribed by your doctor . Do not stop taking alprazolam or decrease your dose without talking to your doctor. If you suddenly stop taking alprazolam you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as seizures; shaking of a part of your body that you cannot control; headache; blurred vision; increased sensitivity to noise or light; change in sense of smell; sweating; difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep; difficulty concentrating; nervousness; depression; irritability; agressive behavior; muscle twitching or cramps; diarrhea; vomiting; pain, burning, numbness, or tingling in the hands or feet; a decrease in appetite; or weight loss. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually."
Seems like they flat out tell you.

I saw that. I wonder what she was talking about? I'm amazed that the PR is good enough to get anyone taking these things. The list of cautions is as long as my arm.
I've been prescribed drugs in my foolish youth and never once had a doctor tell me they had side effects. This you have to discover on your own. Not only that but it's the same with medical procedures. Buyer beware.

No shit huh? When I was 25 and waiting tables (and into coke) I went to a doctor for tension headaches. He diagnosed bad TMJ and gave me fioricet, xanax and flonase. That was the start of 20 years of abusing those drugs. I did every one of the most stupid things of my life including but not limited to a DWI where I hit a car of three people (luckily they were unharmed), trying to off myself, and fights, let me tell you bout the night of valium and absinth - short story I don't remember it, but I woke up in the hospital with broken none and concussion... the story goes on... until I gave up narcotics... need my memory and coordination now to learn guitar.
People get really upset that you can't remember times you had. We had so much fun donchu remember when we went to... sounds like it would have been fun.....
Huh

Indeed, like when you read the instructions that the pharmacist gives you with your pills.
FWIW, I can't even fathom blaming anyone but oneself when lying to a doctor to get a script to get high, without so much as reading the instructions and realizing the ramifications of what might happen if suddenly one's source of pills dried up.

What? I didn't get any paper work with a lot of the prescriptions I've gotten. I've had doctors give me a month of samples with out anything but a wink.
I've also had tons of suggested tests and procedures without any word of some of the possible side effects.
That being said I totally agree about lying to a doc and then not doing your homework. Most everything is on the internet these days.

Well, I'm sure the quality of healthcare varies greatly by provider, I do a bit of homework whenever I move to a new city to find the top doctors in town. I mean, the last time I received a simple antibiotic I received a 10 page pamphlet of questions and answers about the infection on top of information on how to use, side effects, precautions, drug interactions, overdose, missed dosage, and storage information for Azithromycin. If it were up to me, psychopharmaceuticals like Xanax wouldn't even be able to be prescribed by family physicians.
I definitely agree, however, that regardless of doctor it's always in your best interest to do your homework and be your own advocate rather than just going along with whatever they say.

I think there's a lot they don't want to mention as it would make them look like monsters.
