Mail and Cops

I was told that if you keep and envelop in your car with someones name on it, you can keep illegal things in it. And if a police officer pulls you over he cannot open the package because its tampering with the mail, and he would need a warrant to open it. If thats true, I could use that for added security. I dont deal, but I occasionally buy stuff from a friend accross town. I just wanna be safe. Is there any truth to this?

If that's true, then it sounds like a really good loophole.

This may work if the envelope has been cancelled/stamped by the Post Office. Don't think it would apply to just a stamped, sealed envelope. Just my two cent's worth....

maybe if you dont put any postage on it, it wont be considered trafficing through the mail... but the address and return address might give it away. It doesnt matter to me anyway,,, I have secret hiding places in my car Most of my friends do also

You could mail yourself one of those large manilla envelopes that have both the sticky and the metal tabs. when you mail it to yourself just clese it with the metal tab, and dont put a return address on it. when it arrives you have an envelope with a postmark that you can open, put something in, and seal; all without looking tampered with. To anyone who looks at it, it appears to be something you recieved in the mail. If you were careful enough to make sure your prints were not inside the envelope or on the contents, you should have a very convincing story.
BTW make sure you seal the envelope using the sticky, and if really paranoid use a damp sponge nstead of your tongue.

Someone that i used to buy shit from used to do this, he got pulled over and searched once and the cops didnt look in the "mail". But they did try to make him open it in front of them. Its illegal to open someone elses mail.

what would you say to a cop that wanted you to open your mail in front of them? is it legal for them to make you open it in front of them?
