wtf did I just see? 1

OK it's been a perfectly clear afternoon and into twilight. I do a lot of star gazing and was just coming home and looking up to see if I could see any stars yet but it was way too early although I could see a planet. But when I looked directly above my head there was a "plane" (which my habitual mind said it obviously was) caught in the last rays of the sun. Then the "plane" literally vanished out of sight. Now that could be explained by the sun last rays leaving the plane as it set but I could see the sky very clearly as it was not dark yet. Yet there was nothing where that "plane" should have been.

A U.F.O., which implies nothing, other than the fact that you couldn't identify that flying object.

I saw an orb once when I was tripping in Vancouver. I was on shrooms and E but I definitely saw it - it hovered around for like 10-15 seconds then WOOSH dissapeared.

Yes but Shirley McLane's face was up there just for a second.

No I take my Kratom in the morning. It was pretty weird. I'm pretty sure there's a reasonable explanation but it really got my attention.

Maybe you saw a satellite out of the corner of your eye. When you look at small objects indirectly you can see them better.
Quote:
Your retina - the light-sensitive lining at the back of your eye - is packed with light-receiving cells called rods and cones. Only the cones are sensitive to color. These cells are clustered mainly in the central region of the retina.
When you see something out of the corner of your eye, its image focuses on the periphery of your retina, where there are few cones. Thus, it isn't surprising that you can't distinguish the color of something you see out of the corner of your eye.
The rods are more evenly spread across the retina, but they also become less densely packed toward the outer regions of the retina. Because there are fewer rods, you have a limited ability to resolve the shapes of objects at the periphery of your vision.
In the center of your field of view is a region in which the cones are packed tightly together. This region is called the fovea. This region, which is surprisingly small, gives you the sharpest view of an object. The fraction of your eye covered by the fovea is about the same as the fraction of the night sky covered by the moon.
You can demonstrate this effect more simply by focusing on one of the words on this page while at the same time trying to make out other words to the right or left. You may be able to make out a word or two, depending on how far the page is from your eyes. But the area that you can see clearly is the area imaged on the fovea of your eye.
Generally, you are not aware of the limitations of your peripheral vision. You think that you have a clear view of the world because your eyes are always in motion. Wherever you look, you see a sharp, clear image.
Interestingly, your peripheral vision is very sensitive to motion - a characteristic that probably had strong adaptive value during the earlier stages of human evolution. http://www.exploratorium.edu/snacks/peripheral_vision/

Perhaps it just flew into some cloud that was so high up that it couldn't be seen properly.

Could you actually see the plane or just the light. Was the light colored or white and did it flash?

Too big for a satellite and too close and too much light in the sky.

My brain just said plane but I didn't really see one, I saw something reflecting sunlight (gold white) and was fairly large and did not seem higher in the sky than a small plane or low flying jet would be.
I was lying about seeing Shirley McLane however.

That would be my guess too. The gold-white color is a clue. Satellites often have their temperature-sensitive components insulated with a gold film.
As the satellite traveled in its orbit, you happened to catch a "glint angle" where it reflected the sun directly at you temporarily until it moved out of position. This has the effect of making the satellite appear and vanish again as the brightness of the reflection varied. It happens at night too and is even more confusing. Many UFO reports turn out to be satellites. I think only the very bright Venus gets more reports.
