Yeah, I prefer their acoustic stuff too.
In both the folk scene and the folk/pagan metal scene it's not so much of a fan-musician-relationship, but more of a human-human relationship. The scenes are not too large, you can always find a few minutes to talk, and often the musicians even recognize you later. In the case of Omnia: I'm at Castlefest every year, and my girlfriend has been part of it since the very first edition. Everyone knows everyone and the scence is not so huge so there's never too many fans. If you want to you can always find a moment to talk to pretty much any musician in the folk scene. On festivals they're enjoying the markets too, and you find them in front of the stages watching befriended bands. If you engage in a balfolk dance (large group row dance) where you exchange partners every few beats, chances are you'll dance with members of several bands in a few minutes. It's all a big family really
Example of a balfolk dance, starts at the 15 second mark:

It reminds me of the grateful dead. I read an interview about how they thought about concerts. Their concerts everyone danced and it was one huge social event then they had other bands which turned the singer or guitarist into Gods and people started coming to concerts to see the figure head and watch the show. It became all about showmanship.

This band is called Fejd!
A folk metal band that is more folksy than metal, they have tons of awesome videos and their instruments are electric but mainly acoustic including a lute, nyckalharpa, drums, electric bass, among many other acoustic instruments. Like I said, they have GREAT videos online and so far I've only heard their music in languages beside English but they're very good. If you like soft pagan folk with a slight metal edge then this is definitely the band for you.

Ha, I wondered when you would post these guys. They always sing in their native tongue, Swedish. Once more - if you get the chance to see them: DO IT!

Yeah, they sound awesome!
This next band is a little weirder in my opinion, very creative but not for the faint of heart. All their songs are Scandinavian based and in a strange tongue. Haha.
Garmana
I liked that video in particular. They have a very unique sound, acoustic instruments mixed with electronic keyboard I believe that gives some of their songs a rap beat or some an almost techno beat, it's really weird but pretty good. Their song gamem y'all might have heard before if you play racing games. Try definitely have a strange tezture to their music but I like them from what I've heard. I have more diggin to do but if you guys like strange beats accompanied with acoustic instrumentation well then be my guest and check this one out.

That's what I figured, ill get a review in tonight. I've been listening to a few bands on my list. I'm overwhelmed by all the bad ass bands over there.
Modern music in the US is essentially complete and utter shit in comparison. I actually want to move to Europe now, is it hard to get a job out there? Haha.

Depends on what your profession is. Obviously it's easier for citizens of EU countries to move around and apply in other EU countries, but some fields are always short of workers. For concerts and festivals it would be best to move to Germany or the Netherlands. Shroom-wise the Netherlands should be first choice of course

Shrooms are legal to grow and possess, and sclerotia are even legal to sell. In Amsterdam there are tons of shops where you get all sorts of spores, growing materials and other stuff like cacti, MAO inhibitors, DMT plants...
Back to the music: I found a fascinating musical project run by a Swedish guy, slow shamanic stuff:

So freedom is abundant in the Netherlands?
Any who, out of all these bands which are your top...eh, six?
Dunkelschon
This band is pretty bad ass. Celtic folk rock, first folk-rock pagan band that we've had and they seem pretty awesome. A little more electric than I would have thought from reading their bio but they make it work well. I've grown to expect either really soft music or really hard metal from these pagan bands but this particular band struck me as right in between so I you guys are trying to look for a sort of middle ground between the common sounds of the bands I've reviewe then this is a good one to check out.

Yes, the Netherlands are the only country I can truly call free. The feeling to step out of the train in Amsterdam central and walk less than five minutes to the first well-equipped growing store with shelves full of spore prints, Alex Grey posters, Paul Stamets books... indescribable. And usually it's even empty in there because most people go to Amsterdam for the weed
I couldn't possibly name a short list my favourite bands, too many are so damn good. I can name one number one though: Wardruna. I usually like my bands judging by how well they perform concerts, and Wardruna concerts are magnificent beyond description. They're like an invocation of the past. To me Wardruna is more than music. I also like Fejd a lot, again because their performance is fantastic. I still like Omnia a lot, but pretty much only stuff until the Alive album. The Paganfolk album is a masterpiece, I listen to it every few days. Faun should be on the list of course, they're legendary in Germany. They play so well that sometimes I'm glad to hear a little mistake so I know they're actually playing live. I love traditional Irish music too, bands like the Bothy Band or Planxty. I'm quite sad I never had the chance to see these perform. On the darker side of folk I love Dead can Dance and Empyrium. On the Scandinavian side: Valravn, Virelai, Asynje, Garmarna, Hedningarna. On the medieval side: Schelmish, Corvus Corax, Qntal. On the Folk Metal side: Eluveitie, Arkona, MÃ¥negarm. On the darker and more spiritual side of Metal: Wolves in the Throne Room, Agalloch, Moonsorrow, Helrunar, Dordeduh, Negura Bunget.

I love how you categorized them. I was trying in vain to give them a simple category. I have a list of favorite bands and I'm trying to fit these bands in but they're hard to fill in because their sound is so unique, I still have many many many more to review and it seems like I'm always so busy, it's hard to even get an hour to listen to a few full songs. It's relaxing when I do though. This is the only music that can rival the sixties folk revival and psychedelic rock bands.

Loreena Mckennit- Highway Man
This one in particular is more for fans of pretty vocals and soothin old folky music. It's really female oriented in my opinion but still quite good. I'd recommend it for just a relaxing day after thrashing about all week to Arkona, haha. Glad to actually pump out a quick review. It's hard to learn about these bands in such a short amount of time but I've heard this woman on pandora plenty although I honestly hit the skip button more often than not because its a little soft for me. This song in partiular is awesome an I really l love it!

What do you think about Dahm the Bard and Spiral Dance?
I think I'm gonna do a review on Qntal or Neun Welton next, it's so hard to choose. There's too many awesome bands, I get caught up in one and I keep goin back to listen to it more and more, lol.
So far my favorites are Omnia, Dahm, Faun, Blackmores Night and Wardruna.

I don't like Damh too much. When it comes to minimalistic guitar-and-singing I prefer traditional songs because they almost always have interesting lyrics. Damh writes his own lyrics, they don't seem too interesting to me. Some great traditional songs and their themes if you want to have a listen:
-Fields of Athenry - Getting deported to Australia for stealing a handful of corn
-Der wilde Wassermann - German fairytale about a merman who traps a normal woman into the water, fathers 7 children with her, and when she wants to get back to the land he says "let's split the children! 3 for you, 3 for me. What about the seventh? Let's split that one too! And then she stays with him to keep the child alive. There's a cool Faun version of this song.
-The Well - a woman bears six children and still has no love in her life. Why? Two of the children were fathered by her brother; two by her uncle, two by her father. All the babies were killed. I love how such morbid lyrics hide behind pretty songs. There's a great Omnia version of this song.
-Herr Mannelig: a very very ugly troll asks Mr. Mannelig if he can please please marry her. She has been cursed and will become human again if he agrees. But he doesn't agree because as a troll she's too ugly.
I had never heard of Spiral Dance, which is not surprising since they're from Australia. I listened to a few songs and they don't make me overly excited, but they sound nice.
