Ever buy a hat only to realize that out of the $30 you spent that you actually paid $20 for the small logo glued onto it and only $5 for sub par materials and $5 for a machine to make it.
I have and I decided to make better hats out of better materials for a better price.
So I started knitting about five years ago as I lived in the super cold winter climate known as the northern mountaind of NH. Fir some reason winter hats and even snowboarding/skiing hats where never up to the job they where meant to achieve. So me and an ex decided to learn how to knit our own to our standards. We wanted to try yarn no big corporation uses and make theirs. We wanted a specific item to be geared toward each season it would be worn in. This way your winter hat keeps your head nice and warm in the winter but if used in the fall or spring would be way to much. I'm sure you understand this concept, to bad bog companies do not.
We both started to learn together. Well I have a mind the works like a 3D cad machine. I guess its unique from what I'm told as I see something to be built made or created and I dissect and figure out exactly how the item at hand does what it does. I believe because if this I accelled at figuring out how to make the hats and other knitted items work exactly how I desired.
Well three or four years ago I sold hats here that was a huge hit. For eample this is a trade rating of mine left by raw
Quote:
(Subject) Wow... Just Wow 11/30/10 09:04 PM The hats I just got are freaking awesome. I'm sending an extra since I didn't send my end this morning as planned.
These handmade caps / hats are the best I've ever had. (Sorry auntie Em) Glad to start enjoying the finer things in life.
Great colors, perfect size, nice textures.
I kept getting request for a few years but do to a busy life I couldn't even make all I needed to for friends and loved one due to the demand being so great (and still is)
Well my creative streak has taken hold once again. I still make hats but I'm trying new things that I've never seen done. But I'm taking some designs, such as the mittens pictured down below, but not making them just as good or warm as possible because well I have that pretty much mastered. What I'm doing now is taking that design learning it it a few goes then tweaking it so it is no knitted mitten, hat, cowl, socks or anything that your aunt or grandma ever made.
For instance I am sometimes using yarn that is bright day glow rainbow patterns that are blacklight reactive. After a year of much trial errors and failures I I finally figured out how to make bikini tops with no outside input.
But here in these two pics shows the mittens I just knitted. Standard looking nothing special right?

Well to start I have knitted in hair elastics inside the cuffs to keep a nice warm snug fit that keeps the snow from entering at the wrist. Something I have never seen done before.

And after making the first mitten a new application for an old idea struck me. I thought "their is no reason why I can't figure out how to sew in a super secret stash spot on these items. So being as these mittens I made did not have this in mind when I designed them they are not as great as they could be, but as far as them being the very first try they are damn sweet.

I left a seam on the inside of the cuff as to hide it better. Then I hand sewn on Velcro to on either side of the seam on the inside of the cuff that you can't see. This way the Velcro is completely hidden and it looks like a Normal knit seem. Also due to the thick cushion nature of the yarn I use, if spread out I am willing to bet an 1/8 of bud could fit completely around one cuff stash pocket and be hard to tell even when grabbed by a unknowing person.
This seam is only 8 stiches tall due to my original design not incorporating this. My future hats socks mittensor whatever that can have a cuff and the customer wants a stash spot, the cuff will be 16 stitches tall making the stash opening twice as big.
As the days progress I will continue to add pics of new creations I have made for other members here and elsewhere to give you examples of what I'm doing in case you have any requests.
Price will be based on yarn cost and labor. The labor cost is on par with slave labor. I make hats that take around five hours to make and about $7 of material and sell them for $20. I hope that gives you an idea of how great of a deal your getting. Once I get my etsy account all items sold there will be at least 50% more than here
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

I was going to start working on that very very soon. As of right now I have about ten 5 hour plus projects to do. Ounce I take the time to find the perfect stitch and pattern I will be doing beer coozies and that's where logos will be pivotal.
Of course mushroom related emblems are first on the list. And if I can get the emblem stitching down really good I'm going to ask Ythan to be able to use the shroomery logo and name for a set price per item that he receives for lending rights.
Don't know if this is something he will consider but the worst thing he can tell me will be no.
