I found your tek when I first started reading about growing and have been using it for almost 2 years now. I've changed ingredients and containers a few times but it's been no pour religiously.

Been letting the plates cool in the pc overnight and haven't had much issues other than a bit of condensation inside some of the plates. They're mostly clear though.
I will be taking Josex advice from his no pour tips and carefully removing them ASAP next time.

I used to just stick a fresh piece on until the stack of pieces got too thick. Then I changed the micropore tape.

I do the same as pasty, usually after 3-4 rounds in the PC, I'll stick a fresh piece on, especially if it's looking thin or gnarly.

Hey, do you use syringe into top of cup with top off or print scraping to get spores into cup? Do you use the hole with tape over it to syringe through or open in front of flow hood and syringe or scrape?
Is there a specific honey like organic or substitute?
A brand of agar?
I like how simple this is and so cool you took the time to help others!
Thanks...

You can put a drop from a spore syringe onto a plate or scrape from a print (check out inoculation loops). Either way use a flow hood or SAB. Do not inoculate through the tape. Open the dish in a SAB or in front of a flow hood and inoculate.

Thanks for your time in answering, I was also curiuos how does one keep the PC'd distilled water clean when going from the PC to the flow hood. Mushroom stuff seem so haunted by containimation I wanted to get the syringe water to the flow hood uncontaminated...
To reiterate, does one bring the PC to the flow hood and open it in front of the flow hood?

Are the preservatives in gel food coloring an issue when only using a drop or two? I found one (Target brand) that doesn't contain Red #3 but has some Sodium Benzoate and a few other things:

I would stay away from sodium benzoate, though it's only my opinion. If you look up what sideeffects that can have (okay, those are especially bigger dose).

My personal go to for colour now is activated charcoal for a black agar. It provides the most contrast Iβve seen and makes the satellites super easy to spot.

Wow I canβt believe this thread is 9 years old today. When I made this post agar was still a bit of a boogeyman for most hobbiests, we used to actually recommend people do spores to grain as that was safer than spores to LC. Spores to LC was the holy grail of noob shortcuts back in those days. Amazing how this hobby has changed and grown. Thanks to everyone who bumped and contributed to this thread over the years, itβs been a community effort as much as my own. Itβs pretty surreal for me to come back and read these old posts. Appreciate all you who still contribute and make this community the best resource for people today.

I just ordered another 50 pp5 2 oz containers today since all these years later I'm still a SAB hero.
I've referred a lot of people to this thread over the years. I am 100% positive that no pour agar plates are the reason this hobby has taken off like it has.
Thanks Pasty.

Endless thanks Pasty, I think about those "before" days often and how much this tek changed everything for me. I still have some of the first mini rounds from 9 years ago in rotation. This tek stands the test of time
