Not having much luck with this. Really slow growth and no rhizo at all.
I want to try and swap the potato flakes with brown rice flour. Am I right in saying I can still follow this exact tek as written by Pasty, but instead of adding flakes just add brf, and don't add honey?
As a side note, I noticed the dye bottle says to store in a fridge, mine has been in a cup'd - surely that wouldn't much trouble though..

No, green. Read about the possible trouble using red. Think I'll get a black to keep in the fridge, just in case.

I think that's exactly what I did. Or maybe I used potato flour...

As a rule, you want to avoid any unnecessary movements when doing sterile work. But yes, you can get away with this, for sure. It's a pretty minimal movement and the plate upside down is shielded from falling contaminants, anyway.
In my noob days, I'd wipe the moisture off the inside wall with the paper towel square and not get contams. Don't do that. It's dumb and unnecessary. Just saying a controlled tilt to dump the water is fine.
Work on getting your plates cooled more gradually to avoid the condensation, though.

first one without a doubt mold.. but second one looks a little like myc..
but they both came from my first plate, which also looked a little like myc.. but wasn't sure. they're both prob mold i'm leaning towards.

Second plate does have some cube mycelium however I see bacteria creeping around and possibly yeast as well. That’s going to take a bit to clean up.

Word, thanks - can't believe there was actually myc.. this is what the original looks like

It didn't look that bad when when I took the transfers about a week and a half ago.. but was a very dense white, with less tendrils than the new plate.. i was about 30/70 sure it was myc/contam on the original plate.

Read the first 60 pages of this thread before giving it a shot.
Love em, I made the OG pasty plates and also picked up the PP5 screw tops. Agar recipe is solid, as are the containers. Minimal condensation issues by bringing pressure up to 15 slowly. Great write up Pasty, and thanks to everyone else who dropped wisdom in the comments.

Thanks Pasty! I’ve been using this tek for basically all of my agar work now. I seem to encounter contam issues when pouring agar but this method is significantly easier for me.

From what I understand you are not likely to get any growth on it.

"I prefer to grind up my bars and then just store the flakes for when I need them. 2 bars will go a long way. Feel free to use any other agars if you want, powdered agar packets works excellent, just make sure there is no added sugar."

This is the very reason I dont do pours, unless I somehow magically summon a laminar flowhood. For a long while, I shun away from agar works because its just too hard to do before...

There is something very attractive about having your cult medium sealed from sterilization to first use without any interim exposure.

Just wanted to check in with a few of you guys before I set down this path. A food processor should be fine to chop up agar with yeah? Patty was saying she's used scissors in the past so I'm guessing I'd be fine- just wanted to see if anyone else had tried it. Thanks in advance!
