For anyone in Aus that cant find those Glad Tubs, I have played around with Sistema ToGo Containers.
SISTEMA TO GO CONTAINERS
Got the 35ml Dressing (& the Yoghurt ones to try too) to do the A2LC
The Yoghurt ones pressure cook ok in mine, did get a little soft but held up. The 35ml ones held up awesome but are very small.

I've tried and failed making up some plates. I think it was my potato flakes. I was using the sistema mini bites. Did you drill a hole in the lid or just crack it slightly for the PC?

If you guys decided to use a different container other than pasty plates, click on my signature holy grail pp5 container, I assure you they are much better than the sistema to go containers.
I use the pasty plates for the tiger drop, when doing agar to grain transfers, but for everything else i use the holy grails.

I recently purchased a 7 lb bag of malt extract (it was cheaper per pound than the one pound bags). Unfortunately, when it arrived I realized that it's liquid...can it still be used effectively for agar? Should I just return it? If it can be used, any idea how much would be equivalent to dry malt extract? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Thanks for the response! Since you have used the syrup malt extract, how much do you use in your agar recipe? What are the ratios of agar, water, and malt extract syrup? Maybe I won't have to return it after all...

Completely new to all of this. Took about a month of reading and understanding before I started actually buying any supplies.
My first plates don't seem to be growing anything. No myc and no contams. I followed the tek exactly so not sure what I did wrong. Maybe I didn't boil long enough to have the agar solution mixed?
Trying my second round of plates now. First round had the hole on top, and second have the hole on the side (I think the top works better for condensation imo).
Quick question: If I'm using a lighter to flame sterilize my needle and inoc loop do I need to wipe off the carbon (or black) residue with a iso wipe before applying to agar?

No just flame and inject.
What did you do With your first set of rounds? Dropped spores from syringe? If so how long did you wait for germination?

Ok, just making sure the black carbon/smoke deposits don't do anything negative.
First set I dropped spores from a syringe and didn't actually touch the agar. Right now I'm on 7 days since I did that. No growth. I also tried 2 jars with the syringe and don't see any growth.
Hoping my spores aren't the problem.

I think he meant shake the syringes to distribute the spores evenly.
I haven’t done a ton of spore plates but quite a few now, and for me 90% germinate in a week or not at all. I haven’t had anything grow after I think 9 days is the longest so far. I give them five weeks then throw them out usually.

Has anyone tried making mycelium syringes? I made a couple using a fully colonized pasty plate and a syringe filled with sterile water. I just scraped the shit out of the top layer of the dish with the needle, emptied the syringe, closed it back up, shook it, then opened it back up and sucked the water back up. I should mention I was using a non-modified twist top zip lock pp5 dish. I only had about 75% success, due to my sterile tech or an unclean dish. A bit of the agar got broken up as well and made it into the syringe, making a sort of LC in a way? Not sure, just curious if anyone else has tried this. Thanks!

I think that’s the original li method. Like squirting water into a colonized grain jar and sucking it back up.
Never tried it but heard good things.

Yeah it's the LI method. That's what I'm going to do as soon as my plates get some myc growing
