Shit like that becomes less of a risk once you become more familiar with what you’re doing. The edge is the riskiest place because it’s the most exposed when transferring and if the parafilm cracks etc. But honestly after you get the procedure down it’s not that big a risk. Take risks that are acceptable for you. Learn what you’re comfortable with. I get away with stuff other people probably don’t like and vice versa.
Condensation won’t cause contams but it can help them move faster.

which plastic wrap is it to get as a parafilm replacement? is it the glad wrap with a sticky side, or regular one?

Glad cling wrap.
Immediately cut it into small rolls with a box cutter or something. I didn’t do it for a while and it’s so much faster and cleaner and easier to see the dish.

Any cling film rocks, in fact you dont even need that but I prefer it.

I bought some glad mini rounds for the tiger drop. Perhaps there's enough trapped oxygen inside for the culture to grow without a GE hole no? Probably not but have anyone tried that at least?

there sure is enough air, I run no mod lids on my 4oz glass jelly jars an cronicr does as well, should be the same amount of air inside.
however we use glass and the glad minis might warp in the pc if the pressure cant stabilize without a GE hole.. havent tried that myself..

just ran 8oz deli rounds the other day totally unmodded, and i was worried i may get collapsed containers, but they came out just fine. if your lids are threaded, back off a half turn to loosen it. if they're snap on like a deli round with a loose fit, you're golden 😁

Trying these with 2 oz deli containers or “slime” containers as they were advertised. I put 1/4” holes on the sides with 2 layers of micro pore tape. Do I need to use parafilm or glad cling wrap? The mini rounds I used before seemed to work well but they had a much better seal, it’s just hard to see what’s going on.

No. U are good to go. No cling wrap. I use 2oz slime containers also. I have about 200 of them and 250 8oz. Never wrapped them in film unless one of the lids crack. The 2oz ones can be brittle. They work perfect just wish they had wider diameter.

Hey are those the same as then8oz deli containers that came like 500 to a case for 20bucks? I've been wanting to pull the trigger on the case as they look easy to work with but I'm skeptical. I'm using the dollar tree 3 for a buck 2 cup screw caps atm, but visibility still kinda sucks.
I like the "holy grail" containers but cost is prohibitive.

Thanks for this easy and well written tek. Made my first plates today but used ground up chia seeds for nutrition instead of potato flakes. Had to add a bit more water because of the chia but it seems like a success. Might be a while before I use 'em, but I'll update and let everyone know if they work well.

The 2 oz seems like a much better size but for what I paid on amazon I could have gotten 5x as many of these bigger ones. Might have to give these a shot since they will be useful for transfers.

The 2oz take less agar. You can get 2x-3x the plates as 8oz with 500ml agar. But 8oz are good for like t3 and up to see it grow out. I love them both. I ordered some holy grails of no pour and I want some pp5 petris

Thanks for such a detailed post... it's really helpful!
Do you have to use a PC for this, or can it be done with just steam?
