You wrap plates in parafilm/saran wrap after inoculation.

It's not a bad idea though. Some of my lids are getting kinda loose. I might start wrapping my pastys after inoculation.

Ive seen people wrap pasty plates. That comment wasn't directed to you anyways. The guy above you was asking about the appropriate time to wrap dishes.

Making Pasty plates in a second here with leftover grain water. Just confirming, no potato flakes or Karo, right? Just using the ground bar agar and replacing the water ratio with grain water.

How are these plates looking? They're mixed between initial transfer from a PE plate azur sent me and transfers from plates I made immediately from azur's master and stored. Tossed a toothpick in a few for long(er) term storage, heh.

Yup just grain water and agar. I dilute my grain water about 50/50 with tap water.
I suck at judging mycelium from pictures but there is at least some clean cube myc on those plates.

I've only ever made grainwater agar plates in small PP5's. Can't get easier than that. Just curious if there is some advantage to the pastyplates since people seem SUPER excited about them. No disrespect intended.
Can't be many people doing agar who are still stuck on pftek.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

Advantages are subjective. After many runs with jars I switched to these because they IMO are more ergonomic, are not slippery, smaller than 1/2 pints, easier to see through the sides than the textured glass, cheaper, threadless lids, and good on space. After the tiger drop was discovered I really feel they are superior.
People seem concerned with condensation. Plastic pour petris get worse condensation than these. But as I have posted many many times in this thread solutions to condensation can be; less agar per round, overnight cooling, store in fridge for a day or two. To be frank I bag mine in ziplocs before putting them in the fridge to keep the moisture in. Condensation in itself is not a contam vector. Remember that.
Mine usually look like this

If that's too much condensation I don't know what to tell you
Anyway people should use what works for them. Try everything. Don't limit yourself. If this tek isn't working for you then use glass, or plastic petris, only way to know what you like is to try stuff

Condensation isn't even something I think about. I make plates well in advance of when they are needed. By the time I use them the condensation is gone. If I need a plate before it has cleared up. I just shake it a bit then pour the excess water out in my SAB.

the warm cup of coffee trick works well with pasty plates too, stack'em and put a cup of coffee on top

I do the same.
@pasty, was refering more to advantages of the mixture than the containers.
I've just been using some 1cup hummus-shape containers I found 5/$1 at dollartree. They're total shit and kinda distort in the PC, I'll see how they hold up. I can fit a shitton of them in the PC though, and they are convenient to stack for sprawling projects. Just left the poptops cracked during the PC run, no implosions or contams from that so far.

The mixture is just an agar recipe. One that's easy to find the ingredients for. The advantage is myc grows on it but, I use lots of different things for nutes. Grain water, dog food, corn starch, honey, SITR, malt extract, rice flour are all things I have tried and work. Still want to do carrots and V8 agar.

We can honestly say we have. If there is something out there somebody's got that we haven't tried, it's because we haven't heard about it. We're going to finish the pour plates, and discard everything else, while stocking up on Glad rounds. As you say, the work best.
Thanks for the headsup on ziplocks and the fridge. Tomorrow, it's on the list.
Pasty Plates advanced the hobby as much as brown rice flower.
