Sweet man. I imagine working with that much depth would be tricky.

I worked quite a bit of fast food when I was younger including some burger joints. I've been applying burger wrapping to pasty plates and wanted to share my technique.
I want to start by saying that I do this with two hands. For the tek I had to hold the camera so it was a bit clumsy. Hopefully I can fill in the gaps as I go along.
First of all I start with a rectangular piece of foil. This one is a bit on the small side for my liking and I'd probably go an inch or two out further but it will work for the purposes of this post.

Next I take a pasty plate and set it upside down on the foil. This plate has cooled enough to solidify. I orient the lip towards the longer side of the foil.
Here we can see that the foil is a bit on the small side, an inch more on each short side would be optimal.

I then fold the long side over the top of the rounded edge opposite the lip.

Fold the other long side over the lip and straighten out the foil. Notice that I'm not creasing the foil around the lip. This makes our other two folds a lot straighter.

Here two hands is good. I usually use my left to hold the cup and foil steady, placing it where my thumb is in the image.

I fold the right hand side up over the cup.

Same on the left. Leaving us with a plate that looks like this.

I then flip the plate over and push it down against the counter, flattening out the bottom.

And here's the finished product, ready for the pressure cooker.

You will want some kind of sugar source. Grain water, malt extract, dextrose, honey, karo. I go with low nutrient agar for fast rhyzo growth and in-vitro pinning but I would never go with no sugar.

what's meant by "ropey" growth is rhizomorphic growth patterns. You want some nutrition. It's just that the lesser amount of nutrition you use in your agar media the more rhizomorphic growth is encouraged.

Wait I just put it in the PC, I only did potato flakes, agar and dye. Will this cause a lack of growth? The reason I ask is because I left the Karo at my house and I'm PCing in my new place but I'm still moving stuff over. Would really hate to have to go buy it or drive an hour to go get some karo.
Should I just use a small amount of white sugar? Will a drop of regular honey work?

Nah you're good. The potato flakes or whatever will give your agar enough nutrition to support luxuriant culture growth.

Why? Potato flakes turn into sugar when they are broken down by the myceilum...
Quote:
You might be asking why the starch was digested in an area where the fungus had not yet grown. The answer to this question is that digestive enzymes were being released by the hyphal tips into the medium and these were diffusing out ahead of the fungus to break down the starch into glucose, a simple carbohydrate readily assimilated by the fungus for its nutritional needs. This act of digestion outside the cell and absorption of the breakdown products is called extracellular digestion and is accomplished through the action of extracellular enzymes. Virtually all fungi do this.

A drop of regular honey is fine dude. I've always used honey for mine, only used karo once or twice.
