The ones in the back are 1/4 pints and the ones in the front are baby food jars.

I've used all kinds of different containers for no pour agar. Baby food jars work OK but the sides are a bit too high for my liking.

the baby food jars cost 50 cents per jar. The 4 oz ball jars with plastic lid cost $1.60 per jar. I needed about 100 jars at any given time and im a broke college kid so I opted for the baby food jars. Although, I have 12 of the 4oz ball jars for the top priority genetics. 1 baby food jar will colonize within 5 days and be ready to be used to inoculate a master jar, all without any cutting.
The 4oz ball jars are amazing for slicing genetics and inoculating a baby food jar.

Those look like they'll be a huge pain in the ass to deal with. Your blade isn't going to get a good angle on the agar to cut out wedges for LI or whatever. But maybe not.

my blade can pull out the entire culture in a baby food jar within seconds for inoculating a master jar. No cutting.

What blade are you using? I don't know what it is, but I can basically never have a clean cut out of my Pasty Plates. I think I might pour my agar a little too thin or something.

It's all just practice. I used to have trouble even with a brand new exacto blade. A few hundred transfers later. I can make precise cuts with a butter knife.

Do you guys hold your jars sideways before opening and cutting? I do. I can get better angles for cutting on the smaller jars and im not as paranoid about contams. I got 4 contams out of 40 on my last batch but I also only flame my scalpel once per jar. So if I was gonna take 5 slices from one jar to 5 receiving jars then I only flame once. Then again, I dont fuck with contaminated jars from the get go.

Well my first attempt at agar, I kinda wanted to open one and check out how it turend out ya know feel it..I just put them in glad sandwich bags right from pc to fridge. My next challenge is inoculation, I made a quick glove box, cardboard with holes cut out the sides and a a plastic window on the lid. I migjt make a better one that's all see through and plastic with dish gloves tapped to sides.. Im worried I'll.add too much spores from the syringe, it doesn't slide down easily so you push and splurt....anyways, agar made easy is right..

Why do people still think taping gloves is beneficial? Use a Still Air Box (SAB) and not a Glove Box.

my bad, what I made was a (sab), I read a little and saw some good reasons not to tape gloves on. I'll stick with the sab I have, its cardboard but I read somewhere it works just as well. I took out one of the agar plates and un foiled it to just check it out, touch it, smell it.. it feels really cool and smooth.

I hope you're not saying you opened an agar plate and started fingering it

yes thats exactly what i'm saying I fingered it good..lol obviously its no good to use.. but I wanted to get a feel for the agar since i've never seen it before. keeping in mind my ratios, if I change something I'll see what effect it has on agar, too stiff, not stiff enough..
It wasnt my only agar plate.
