Yeah, I'm not so sure myself Pasty, that freeze fucked it up good, where I could not get shit for a clean sample, but I think I might give it a shot, I got two plates left, and may just see what I can or can't come up with after getting a better look with the lid off.I will post back after I see if I get any decent results.
That tree oyster is probably my second favorite mushroom(edible wise) only to the morel, everyone raves about the king oyster, but I find it rather bland.

I find kings a bit bland too but they are good for bringing out the flavour of other foods. They also have the best texture of all the oysters I have tried.

It's totally a phone pic.
My phone just knows enough to store the agar upside down to prevent contamination.
Edit: And you should totally try pulling out a section if you think it's oyster mycelium. If it is, awesome! If it's not, next time you know.

Good luck supAtrip, I WENT AHEAD AND DID 2 transfers, we shall see what happens, besides, if you can nail down the contaminant, which I did(to the best of my ability) and if there had been no links to any health threats to humans(from said contaminant) what is agar for?Man I know I am gonna catch some shit for that one.
Don't anyone follow my lead on what I did, MUDA knows a hell of a lot more to growing mushrooms then me, but I just did as his sig says, in so many words. Man I am just fucking with ya MUDA, don't take that personally!
Anyone care to take a stab at what kind of contaminant that is, that one little spot I do beleive is bacteria, but I'm talking about the major contaminate on there.

Yeah, I agree with ya on the texture. I am gonna have to try this recipe Forrester gave me(if I can find it, LOL) it looked delicious.
Well after I did the transfer, I took the dish and tiger dropped that agar outside, where the cold will kill it off.

So it's taken a few days but my mini round is taking off and looks really healthy.
I was worried because I had to wipe out a bunch of condensation that had collected on the inside of the mini round before i placed the sample inside (didnt know if i would be getting unwanted spores in there from the paper towel)
I used a piece of core tissue about the size of a grain of rice, it turned blue almost black immediately after being cut. It took a few days but has now become encapsulated in a cocoon of new myc which has just started to grow out onto the agar in all directions and is a little smaller than the size of a dime.
Really excited to finally start working with agar and I probably wouldn't have for some time if not for this tek, can't thank you enough Pasty!

don't worry about wiping the condensation out. thats just another vector for contam. the condensation will clear up in 2-3 days after you make the plate.

I made them on thanksgiving, only used one, the rest I have in the fridge and they still have condensation maybe because I left the foil on?

I've seen this repeated everywhere but this has never been the case for me. The condensation stays no matter what for me. When I use the plates, I take off the foil and wipe down the inside with the sterilized paper towel in my SAB. It seems to work just fine.
You're going to wind up opening the plate anyway so why not use the paper towel which has been PC'd and kept under foil ever since? I simply turn my plate upside down inside the SAB, wipe it down, then put it back on the top of the plate. Works great!

Yea that's what I did with the mini round that I used but I didn't touch the others, should I clean them out or just leave them alone until I need to use them?

So I made some agar dishes just over a week ago, then inoculated a week ago with a MS syringe and so far there is nothing growing on my agar. Any ideas why not or what might have gone wrong?
There is also still some condensation on the inside of the dish. There is some weird stuff at the BOTTOM of the agar now all of a sudden. I doubt it is myc, does not really look like it and shouldn't the myc be on top and not the bottom?

there shouldn't be anything growing on the bottom, I'd say its contaminated but that doesn't mean that the spores won't germinate and give you some healthy myc to transfer to another plate.

Condensation will not stop growth or cause contams. If you can grow a culture in LC a few drops won't stop nothing. Put the rounds in the fridge for a few days to dry it up if it really bothers you.
Unused rounds can be kept for a long time, will last for months before they start to dry out
A week for spores is nothing. I had some where they didn't germ after a month. I then forgot about the plate and found it 4 months later and to my surprise the spores were just starting to germ. I made a few transfers and got a grow from it. A week is nothin.

Did up 24 last night and they look great. Some of them the agar is a bit thin but should work none the less. Going to clone a couple fruits tonight.
Now I went ahead and did two pieces of the tape out the gate. Should I leave it with both or pull one piece after I drop a sample into the agar? Devil is in the details so thought id ask

Has anyone here actually scooped out their entire circle of mycelium through the Pasty plate? Maybe specifically with an X-acto? It's impossible for me at the angle, but I want to know if it's me pouring the agar too thin or doing something wrong. I can't NOT just tear it up. It's so frustrating.
