Just finished transferring a core section of myc from the cluster I mentioned previously. This is my first attempt at cloning so I'm hoping for the best... time will tell

First succesful Grain - Agar :], my KSSS jar that I thought was contamed but was really dry. I noticed that the grain became extremely fluffy with myc for a day or two before edging out onto agar. Is that typical? My other pasty plates have yet to germinate but temps have been in the high 60's for the past few days so that's probably why they're slowing down. When this is done I'm gonna keep transferring it until I get a mono and then put a piece of that into a master slant forever :].
Thanks for the tek Pasty!

Let a drop of APE fall onto some agar on 11/25.
I checked today on 11/29 and I see this:

It's white but it's soupy, I didn't tilt to see if it would move though.
Is this contam or myc?
My other agars look like this:

The first pic is bacteria. I can't really see what's going on in the second.

Well folks, its been a year since I got up the courage to post this. In that time this thread has received over 34,000 views, 1650+ replies, had some great discussions, and I have made some good friends. I look through the boards and I see new growers not intimidated by agar, they are embracing it. Teks have been developed on how to use these rounds. I have received many from people thanking me, asking questions, and just to shoot the shit. I love it. Not to mention that despite my lack of encouragement, the name "pasty plates" seems to have stuck
This tek would not be the success it has without all of those who come here to help with advice, and use the method themselves. I would like to thank all of you guys and you know who you are. Lets look forward to another year of clones, clean inoculate, and isolates.

You're the man, Pasty. This is such an unintimidating and easy to follow Tek. I doubt I'd be using agar as often as I do now without it. Thanks, bro!

Hey Pasty or whomever's on right now,
I just ordered some vacutainers to start a master slant collection of all the strains I come across. Will your formula work if I suck it up into a syringe and shoot 7ml into a tube or should I adjust the formula?

Thanks guys, I feel like this was the catalyst for getting to know many of you. Of course I had vdg and cron before but so many good relationships were formed later on and for that I am grateful.
@ taGyo, I personally would add a little more nutes to the mix for long term slants. But yes the recipe I laid out in the OP would work.

Just saw this.
If it wasn't for this tek I wouldn't have dipped my toes in the agar pool. You're the man pasty!

A little of both I'd say, tho the potato flakes are the more important nutrient for sure.

I'll be experimenting with my KSSS strain since I have so much.
Thanks Pasty, Now that I'm on my computer and not my phone I can properly thank you for introducing me and a bunch of other noobs to agar. It's honestly changed my mycological life and I haven't even done a transfer yet . Before this tek I was reading and reading and just getting disheartened by the amount of scientific know-how that one seemed to need to pull it off. Then I came across your tek that laid it out SO easy, bought what I needed and gave it a shot. Now all of that scientific mumbo-jumbo I read on every other thread isn't intimidating anymore.
It's all about learning and then applying said learned knowledge. You've provided a lot of people with their first step and for that we thank you

I finally found a store that had agar agar in town and bought up the last 2.5 oz they had. Just so happened right before that I bought 24 mini rounds, a box of potato flakes, and some expensive natural honey. ... So few questions. Your recipe (2.5g, 120ml water, 2 teaspoons), how many mini rounds will this do?
Also, my spore syringe is packed full of activated carbon. I was told these syringes arent very good for agar. Something to do with the activated carbon and it sucking up the nutes?
I have a old wbs spawn jar that was noc'd up with it though. Would I be better off dropping a grain in the agar and start isolating that way?
