So here are some transfers from a piece of agar I used earlier this month for an LI (the LI colonized to grain without contaminations).
Sorry for the poor quality, I didn't have time to setup my SAB for pictures without the lid.

These look to be pretty even and without satellites or other contams. I'm planning on growing them out a bit more and using them as an LI for more grain. Do these look good to use as LI or should I transfer some more?

Dang, I thought that was just part of the chunk I dropped it. I had to scrape one of those around to get it off the X-acto a bunch, was hoping that was it. I don't have use for this much LI right now so I'll just open up and sacrifice the potential satellite to get a clear pic.

The little dot is definitely satellite?

Looks like myc to me from that angle, but if you've got multiple dishes it's better to play it safe and ignore this one. Let this one grow out and see if it pins on the plate, then you've got a use out of it.

Looks like cube myc. Try to get your transfers down smoothly in one place. It makes growth much easier to track.

I'm working on that. I'm having trouble getting the chunk off the blade in one maneuver, resulting in me dragging it (and probably the reason for the little speck there).
I'm assuming if I give it a few more days, I'll be even more certain if it's just myc or perhaps contam?

When I make transfers. I cut threw the agar as I set it down and just pull my blade back.

Thanks for that tip. I'll have to try that. You just act like you're slicing into agar normally, like maybe to cool your blade?

Do it man. It easy and incredibly useful. All of my grows start with agar and many of them could not have been done without it.

Right now it is mostly an issue of space; need to find a way to have an area I can dedicate to this without having it visited much and left nice and clean. It will happen soon, I know it will!

Up until very recently I did all my myco work including sterile work In my bed room. I used to just put my SAB on my bed and go to work.

My join date was the day I first Googled about growing my own mushrooms. Agar is a snap, bro. I'm obviously super new to it and not very good yet, but I'm making successful LI's with my agar and colonizing grain jars from it.
I'm not sure what space you need? All you need is a SAB (large storage tub) and maybe a countertop and you're good to go.
The plates are tiny and you just set them out wherever you want after you're done inoculating. Mine are in the mason jar box sitting on top of my fridge.
Muda, thanks. I'll do that next time.

Agar first. Brf cakes should go the fuck away forever.
I made MudaFukan CVGs (9) and only 1 contaminated. It was as simple as the BRF tek videos too. Not only that but now you've learned how to make substrate for bulk down the road. Shits dope!

I just made my first cakes a few days ago just for shits and giggles. I didn't have BRF though so I made oat flour. I also added coffee and dog food. I think cakes are kind of cool. That may just be because they are new to me though.

I still think they're neat. I like the fact I can do like 20 at once and most of them are going to survive. You can also do slurries with them, fruit them normally, grate them into a bulk sub, etc. I also like using them to test different inoculation methods like LI/LC. The fanning sucks though!

Agreed, I really just started working with agar and besides it being really useful, its also a lot of fun. Makes me feel like a damn scientist.
cakes are alright in my book as well.
