I use waterproof surgical tape (not micropore) in a crisscross X across the hole and just the standard paper towel + foil combo on top. They seem to work just fine. I've also used a piece of Tyvek rolled into the hole, that worked well too.

A lot of places will carry the packets of powder, which from my experience usually have added sugar that you don't want. I just bought the little bricks that Pasty uses in the Tek and ground them up with a coffee grinder I bought for like $14 or something. It's super easy to do and very easy to store. I would go for those if possible.
A lot of Asian cultures use agar to make soups so if you have an Asian population in your city, go to those types of stores.
Note: The guy deleted his post, but he was asking about where to buy agar. I'll just leave my response.

There are lots of brands of powder that are fine to use too. Telephone agar is good. The powdered agar I use has no english on it so I don't know what its called.

You can delete posts. He deleted it and reposted into the other agar thread by SBJ. I've deleted posts before. You just deleted yours.

For sure. I guess I'd say that it's likely if yours is flavored, it has sugar though. I donno, the bricks are easy, I like 'em.

Or, shit, maybe you can delete posts now. I wonder why he would do that. I'm guessing you can only do it within the ninja edit timeframe?

Hrm, I always thought you just plain couldn't, or mods would just delete posts and warn the user instead of editing them blank and/or publicly chastising them in said edit. I guess I got that idea from all the failed deleted OPs around, and posts edited to be blank.

For real, you should put "Trusted Cultivator and inventor of the Pasty Plate" on your resume.

Hahah sorry guys! If you are talking about my question, I just felt that I would be detracting from Pasty's thread and asked the question in a generic agar thread instead.

Or powdered in packets. You will have to look at it. If you ask them for it they will look at you dumb haha.

Does it matter if the plates knock a bit in the pc and if so how can I make the plates sit still?

Not really. What matters is they cool down stable and level. The agar will solidify when cool. You don't want them to tip over or anything though.
