Just wanted to say thanks to Pasty for this tek. I've been using it for close to two months now and it's opened up a whole new world of fun and obsessive compulsiveness for me.
Below is a pic of what I've currently got going on. I've also got 18 more fresh plates in the SAB and some in the fridge. I've probably gone a bit overboard but I'm having fun.

The third plate from the left on the upper shelf has a contam in it. It was the only satellite I've seen in the past few weeks. My first few batches were contam central so I think I've come a long way with my sterile technique to be able to go through this many with only one contam.
Anyway, just thought I'd share my success. Thanks again!

did my first set of 8 plates last night!
1 enoki culture, 2 KSSS spore syringes, and the rest were AA+ spore prints.
It was really fun and a lot easier than I anticipated. Went quick too.
Some of my plates came out a little slanted cuzz my small PC. will have to work on stabilizing the foil platform better next time.

So, I guess I over-misted my SAB when I was prepping it... because I was doing a plate, and I went to put the lid back on, and a droplet of water fell from the roof of the SAB and landed in the plate!! Oh well. It was one of my spore print plates, which I have many more of. But a little experience learned on my end.

Yeah practice is the best way to learn this shit, its why I always rag on people to stop procrastinating and just do it. The beauty of agar is that it will teach you if you fucked up and let you redo it. Closest thing to a mulligan we have in this hobby.

I have a very clean syringe...
But when i used it to my grainwater agar, its like they dont wanna germinate...
Gotta check those pdya then... Anyway, is it really that hard to germinate on grainwater? Its been 2 weeks and nada... No nothing whatsoever...
The syring were use in some grains, 0 contams...

How long usually does it take for these plates to pin? I'm really curious about spores.

Impossible to say. Could be a week, could be never. Pins on plates are indicative of strong fruiting genetics which is why we clone em when they appear. Also grain soak water is a fine choice of nutes for germination I have used it many times

I'm pretty sure the roof isn't supposed to be misted. I think most people spray down bottom and sides and just wipe off the roof with Lysol or a Clorox wipe or just leave it. Sick setup, dude.

You might see a knot first
Personally I mist the top tho usually not so much that its dripping into my work
Much of this stuff is personal preference and will be very subjective. The only way to figure out what works is to just try it and see.

Man some of my plates from my new batch developed a weird whitish flim over the top of them within the first couple days, seems like mycelium doesn't wanna grow on it, so, seems like it could be a contam, will have to edit a picture into here I guess. Never had anything cover the whole surface in like a day though, and it seems to be happening to more than one of my dishes, suddenly.

I had some pretty aggressive bacteria that would take entire plates over within a day or two back in January. It took over all my plates before any myc could grow and made me go a bit crazy for a while.

Sounds like a bacterial problem, insufficiant sterilization time most likely.
