I would wait for your mycellium to grow out a little more, but that's just me, you can do as you please.
But, as far as the grains, everybody does them different, but, I would not go digging in your grains, you risk contaminates, so I personally take my scalpel, and get the wedges of agar to slide off into the grains, then I PERSONALLY SHAKE THEM, having the agar wedge coming into contact with as many grains as possible, BUT, some people have problems with it getting stuck to the sidewalls or the lid(VERY BAD PREDICAMENT)!
I personally, for your first time, would just get the wedges in there, and shake it till you get the wedge buried down into the grains m, preferably as close to the middle of the grains as you can.

Gotchya. I'll wait to see if anything grows in Sockadin's or Muda's methods and choose then. In the meantime I'm REALLY enjoying seeing my little myc's hustle that agar. They're doing really well.

On another note, I went to the dollar store and they have like an entire aisle of pp5 containers. I was
There was a decent sized square container that will fit in my PC! I was thinking about nabbing it and growing a small batch out of it.

I love how pp5 plates push out pins, look at this cluster

Do you typically just leave the paper towel on the lid like that? I usually pull mine off after everything's mostly dry. If you get good results leaving them on then I'll not bother removing.
Yup I always leave it on. Is handy to write notes etc and is one more layer to reduce sporeloads on the filters. When I am done with the plate I use it to wipe the plate clean.

Iam,
They're the Pasty plates and they're just out sitting in the hallway on my dryer. I also accidentally misread the OP and removed the paper towels from the top as well.
There's virtually no way for me to get a decent picture of them on my camera without removing the lid briefly. I'm really curious to get a picture of a few of them, but want to make sure it's okay to do so in my SAB.
One is a nice white circle, 100% PURE COLOMBIAN mycelium I'm sure. The other is a green spec, which I want to zoom in on and check out. And the third looks like a huge pool of tiny whiteness, which I am sure is the plate I accidentally sprayed an entire CC into.

I couldn't get my camera to focus, so I got pissed and threw a finger tantrum on my smart phone screen and suddenly it focused! I clicked on the foreground right beneath the plate and it showed my myc! I was stoked.
The opaque container tricks the camera -- mine anyway, I don't have manual focus on my smart phone.

Stare, I know you are excited, and want to show everyone your plates, but most people here have seen what good and bad shit looks like, and you are just asking for a contam, as someone said earlier, PATIENCE, wait till your mycellium grows out a little more, then inoc your grains, and show is pics of that.
I am just trying to make you be successful, who am I, you do as you please, you won't hurt my feelings!

For sure, I get it. I meant for my own curiosity, but I guess I'll just leave them alone. I thought my SAB would be safe, especially since I can just open it upside down and snap a picture that way.
This patience part of this shit is so much easier with the jars since I can see them growing. The condensation on the damn plates is killing me!

So you can't take pics or see because of the condensation?

You would probably be ok, I just hate to see you get a contam, but if your heart is dead set on it, do it, and post the pics. I surely would not do it with all of them thought.

If you were super careful, you could probably still get rid of that condensation.

It's both my camera not focusing and the condensation. I have 8 jars total and 4 of them I wiped off with an unsterilized paper towel and I left 4 others alone. Each version has something I want to photograph.
If I do open them inside my SAB, can I wipe them with a an isopropyl paper towel to get the condensation off? Or even the finger on a sterilized nitrile glove?

I did. I popped the lid loose carefully, picked the plate up and held it sideways so nothing could drop in and slowly removed the lid. I really think you can fix the condensation and pic. If you keep it in your SAB and pic from the outside I don't see why it shouldn't work.
If you tam out, lesson learned!
Also I found that if I focus my camera on the foreground just beneath the plate -- it focused perfectly. Try that.

Do you have any pooling water inside?

Edmunter,
I can't see enough in to tell, but I don't think so since when I moved the plate around, no water splashed on the sides. But again, not sure.
Pudgy,
What'd you use to wipe? I don't want to risk infecting anything by wiping with unsterile objects.

The pictures I took of the green spot came out bad and I don't feel like going back for more. I'll let it grow some more though since there's no harm if it's contained in the plate.
This is the good splotch of what I assume is healthy mycelium.
This is the plate where I'm sure I squirted a full CC into it. What should I do with it?

Is 40-45 minutes necessary? That seems long for these tiny containers with thin layers of agar.

How can you tell? The big one I'd have no problems believing is bacteria, but what's so obvious about the little one?
