Hi Pasty -
I used this method with the side hole (though used some modifications in the Agar Prep - I used Bod's Microwave cook), trying it for Lion's Mane, Pioppinos, and Oyster mycelium runs. You mentioned condensation, and I had quite a bit both on the inside and outside of the glad mini. Outside will dry, I'm not concerned about that. I'm curious in your experience if condensation on the inside just evaps given time given the small FAE hole? Or if it doesn't, do you find the contam rates go up? My hypothesis is should be fine, I guess we will find out. Thanks for the great write up.

Thinking in buying these for no pour dishes.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007VEEAZO/?coliid=I8U8UD6CSRSKR&colid=39K86B69YBVLQ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
These clarified polypropylene containers even look like petri dishes. Any objection before i click on the buy button? :P
I wonder if the lid closes too tight or i can get away with gas exchange without any modifications.

Thanks so much for your advice! I have been looking around for a simply-put agar method. I am beginning my first grow this upcoming week, and I was planning on just buying syringes and inoculating from there. Agar was making my head hurt. But with your method it looks like I'll only need to buy 2 syringes and clone from there! Is agar available at a regular store? (Walmart, Safeway) or do you have to look for it online or at a health pantry? If you have any advice for a beginning grower definitely let me know thank you!

I have been running this method for awhile now. I've found it quicker to microwave my agar in a pint jar making triple batches at a time. I also replace a tsp of water with a tsp of brewed coffee.it seems to work good as a nitrogen source. If I have left Iverson I just wipe the jar rim, slap a regular lid on it and pc it till next time. I really should just buy a media bottle.

I'm having a lot of trouble with condensation on my lids, and I think I may be pouring from the saucepan to the plates too soon. How long do you guys wait to pour it after boiling? How long can I wait before it sets? If I let it reach room temp first will it be too late?

Even if you wait to pour your going to pc it and it will boil again. I just try to make them 7 to 10 days ahead of time. The condensation will reabsorb into the growth media

I just tested mine a little bit after I poured. They seem to be mostly set by 85

i've heard letting the liquid cool a little before you pour them helps reduce condensation. Mine had quite a bit when they first came out
I've been storing them upside down without the tinfoil as suggested so the water doesn't pool on the agar. The condensation is evaporating, its been two weeks since I made them and they are almost good

If you need to use them sooner just dump out the condensation in the still air box. Mine are usually good after 5 to 7 days maybe it's because I use screw tops? Dollar tree has some that have a flat bottom and arent super huge they are 3 for a buck and last me about 10 cycles. I thinking thrown out 2 of 24 in 3 months and one was because I'm retarded and drove a red hot scalpel through it.

Haven’t done any mycology in a long time, was always intimidated by agar. Tried out some of these and mixed my own agar instead of buying premixed stuff. I wish I would have gotten into agar a long time ago. It’s fun and addicting, and with this tek surprisingly easy. Thank you.

This tek has been my go to for no-pours since the beginning. My favorite part of these Glad Mini Rounds is how you can simply squeeze the sides to loosen up the agar puck so a scalpel is unnecessary to make an a2g transfer.

Yeah that is one thing I miss about these plates..
so that brings me to a question:
You know how everyone is always saying, "you gotta avoid the edge of the plate, as it is usually dirty"
well if that is true then why do you take agar wedges that lead out to the edge of the plate and drop it in some grains?

They are talking about pour agar when they say that.

So if you use a pour plate to put to grain should you cut a little way from the edge around the whole plate and only use the inner piece??
I’m imagining like a 1/4 inch of the outer edge unused
Or is it not that big of a deal?
I got a little lesson about another reason to pour at low temps. I had a bacterial swab and the whole edge of the plate is covered in bac growth from the condensation running over the swab and then pooling up and running around the sides.
