This made life so much easier, thank you so much. I was just throwing spores in grain and hoping for the best. Now I have 10 plates transferred from one and only one contam that's nice and visible against the blue food coloring. https://files.shroomery.org/files/19-38/911081270-20190921_082726.jpg] [/url]

ok so I'd just add it here, One time I left the blank no pour plates with the foil on, I was thinking of avoiding getting any dust on the lid and I ended up losing almost the entire batch, I think out of 20, only 2 ended up useable.
then I made a new batch of no pours, got all the foil off, 1... 2 weeks, and no contam grew on almost every single one, I maybe lost a plate or two..
so what about that shit? could contams have possibly snuck in the (possibly wet) micropore taped holes and got to the agar?
so yea, dont leave those foils on

I dont even use foil any more. I have some nice rounds that I make a GE hole on the side. Ive had zero contamination due to not being covered.

I was wondering where you got those deli containers? I could only find taller ones.

I guess walmart no longer carries these, although they now have a bunch of different sized larger ones... total bummer for me They were basically perfect for my needs and cheap.
Picked up some similar ziplock ones instead, but they are slightly larger and cost a bit more.
For some reason, its very hard to find this kind of container at stores where I live.

Quite big but I put extra agar mix in. I have glass petris for final cultures but these are great to use for the first few transfers

The little ones have attachable lids and are not as easy to use

Yeah I ordered some 4 oz slime containers and they are ok but I still have to use a scalpel to extract the puck not as easy as a glad mini to just tiger drop ..
I just dont like how the glads take up so much room

is there such a thing as making your agar too stiff? I recently was trying to keep a half a L warm while making new jars to fill and i heated it a bit too long and it got quite stiff on me, so half the agar dishes will likely be quite stiff. any concerns there? still breaks apart and will slice nicely with a scalpl.
Cheers! thanks Pasty!! You the shit!!!!

boiling it too long shouldn't make it more stiff. Unless you boiled so long that you lost a considerable amount of water through steam and noticeably changed the ratios.
I haven't tested making really really hard agar. But, if you can slice through it easy, i think it'll be alright. How much agar to water did you use?

thanks man! I used exactly 20g for 1L of water, and you're right..I didn't boil it long at all! so maybe my agar will just be quite stiff. It does say "excellent Gel Strength" on it, (...smh duh) as opposed to the regular strength that was available, Im now thinking that the stronger agar mix is so you only have to use a little of it/less than usual and get the same effect? Or this is just how stiff it always is supposed to be...as Ive never done this before! So I really appreciate the help! lol I will post pics once out of the PC. I am basing this off some that was left behind in the bowl and when I added cold water it hardened up real stiff, but again ..no reference point right now for this..my first go! I made a shit ton of jars and pasty cups so hopefully I didnt over do it...Well have to wait and see! I have some spawn and spores for some Agar dishes and G2G as well as LC inoculations. Very excited!

Have been doing something similar . started off using my extra jars, then went to my extra Rubbermaid containers, my gf works at city market and have been using their deli containers in the same procedure. I've had holes in the lids and sides and have noticed less condensation with the ones with holes on the side.

I noticed in the tiger drop video that the guy left the paper towel on there, am I supposed to leave it on, or remove it after I take the foil off?
Also, in the OP, pastywhyte mentions not touching the micropore, is that something I am supposed to avoid doing?

Any tips on how to avoid water droplets on the agar surface? About to make another set, I don't think the myc would grow uniformly.
Took the lid off of one for picture.
