depends on how much it eats. mycelium isn't very potent though

Another thing I found interesting is that the melting point of these pp5 dishes is the same degree to which my PC operates. Just barely makes it lol.

Quick question. Do I need to drill holes and foil wrap the screw top "take out" containers? Thanks!

You dont want a vaccum it will implode the container at the weakest point. Usually the lid and warp it. You can either drill a hole or leave the lid unscrewed a 1/4 turn.

Howdy y'all. I've had some great success with this tek and truly love how approachable it makes agar. THANK YOU for that, truly.
I am going to prep some new glad mini rounds and wanted to ask: how should I be storing these after pressure cooked in order to assure the Agar mix in the mini round takes on the proper final form (so that its a solid gelatin texture). Should they be briefly refrigerated? Cooled in the pressure cooker? Cooled at room temperature?
I'm sorry if I missed this info. I did a pretty solid read a few times of this thread but couldn't get through every page.

They should be cool and ready to use about an hour after they come out of the pressure cooker.

Its best to cool them in the pc.
Agar is solid at room temp, no need to cool

Howdy.
Loving this tek. Thank you Pasty, I do consider you a hero.
1. Small, 4oz mason jars - good substitute for glad containers if we are out/all are in use? 2. Cutting mold out of agar - in your experience, problematic or worth the effort? 3. Healthy myc from the top of a pf jar w/no verm and filtered air exchange in sub (somewhat rhizomorphic lookin) - good to drop on an agar plate?

1. Sure thing, I use jars. The 4oz ones are great.
2. Not sure I understand but, no need to cut mold from plate. Cut a small slice of clean mycelium from the leading edge furthest from mold/bacteria and put that mycelium to a new agar plate. You can transfer away from the mold or bacteria though it might take a few transfers. Cutting the mold out won't help. Transfer a sliver of mycelium to new. If you have a lot of clean plates though it's probably easier to toss the contaminated ones rather than try and do transfer after transfer to clean it up.
3. That'll work. Even if it contams, you can clean it up as mentioned above.

Why is that? I cooled mine in my PC once and half of the plates had agar set on a high slant

Condensation. Thats because they were floating. If they are solid on the trivet theyll solidify flat

rooted said: Didn't read the whole thread, maybe someone else noticed this. I wanted to try to get away from my glass Petri hassle, only brand around here was Ziplock PP5. Same size as Glad. Cooled pour looks real nice, but there was a differential in the expansion/contraction between the clear container and blue cap (vented w/SFD), so the caps won't seal again. Salvageable w/UV-treated Parafilm but not ideal. Time to shop online for the OP's brands. BTW, I'm just an old mushy who found this site. This is my 1st ever on-line web post (scary).
I have used these before, when I couldn't find any thing else. Personally I will never use them again. At least the ones I bought. The lid just sits on top so its very loose. A few of them came out okay in the end but I would avoid using them. I noticed A lot more condensation with them which eventually ended up on the agar. I know I didn't like them but they will work if u don't have any other choice. I can never find the glad ones around my parts but my favorite brand is Rubbermaid and Betty Crocker. I hope this helps

Oh I forgot I came here to ask a question, lol I have been using these for about 5 months now and I go through ALOT of them! Plus don't like to get rid of them even after making a transfer just in case I need to go back to it. So my question is are they ok to stack? I have the whole drilled in the top so is it okay or is that a bad idea bc of the micropore tape being there? Btw i use a different brand so my tops are flat...
